KTVU News

When I was on a business trip in Reno couple weekends ago. I was surprised KRXI FOX 11 in Reno showing KTVU News. They were showing KTVU 2 News In the Morning, KTVU News at Noon, and the 10pm News. Not just only KTVU, but KRVU, and KZVU in Redding/Eureka TV market. Why did KRXI, KRVU/KZVU showing KTVU News instead of using outsourcing news from their competitors station? What impact does KTVU News have in these local markets, why would they care about shooting in Oakland, Sheriff Ross Markamini vs. Mayor Ed Lee, or weather in Pacifica?

Hmm Don't a certain percentage of San Francisco people go to Reno? Maybe this is a leftover when KTVU was a superstation? Look at WGN America they air a Local 9pm Chicago Newscast for the entire country. But wait I looked at DirecTV and the NYC O&O's and LA O&O's are available for areas that don't have a network affiliate in their DMA. I do know KTLA was also a superstation at one time Not sure if thats still strue today.

KRXI was doing that in 2001, when I spent some time in Reno. It's true that Reno fills up with Bay Area gamblers, but that's mostly on the weekend. KRXI is owned by KTVU, Inc.

The other major network affiliates in Reno have all tried to partner with KRXI, but Cox has never been interested. They started a 10 minute local news program a couple of years ago that is produced in Iowa.

Cox has the station on the market, so the KTVU news on KRXI will eventually come to an end.

I wonder why COX hasn't start up their in-house news production for KRXI instead of relying on KTVU in San Francisco, and INN from Iowa.

KCVU, the Fox affiliate in Chico/Redding, does this with Sacramento's KTXL. I wonder how long the arrangement will last now that KCVU is co-owned with KRCR.

i don't think money is an issue since Cox is willing to invest in the news departments of the Tv stations they own. When Cox bought KCIK in El Paso they spent money on that station which is now KFOX to give them a news department.

The only time Cox can get financially cheap is with their radio division which is why many of their radio stations suck.
