KTWL Hempstead 105-3 Question

Is this station a part of the "Aggieland" cluster? It is more of an Aggieland rimshot as it doesn't give a 60 dBu over the Bryan/College Station area.

Even though its COL is Hempstead, the website offers a Brenham address on its contact us web page.

Does its advertisers consist of mostly Brenham businesses or do Bryan/College Station advertisers also use KTWL?

Do weather reports (if any) give temps and forecasts for College Station?

The station pretty much covers the rural area between Houston metro and B/CS. The signal is inadequate to make an impact in either market. This is one of those facilities I could easily see winding up with one of the satellite religious networks.

I rarely listen but the ads seem to be for local businesses in NW Harris, western Montgomery, and Grimes counties. Don't recall hearing any Brenham ads.

Thanks for the response, MediaFrog.

Looking back, I should have asked this question on the Houston board. I probably would have gotten more feedback.

Surge, this is an oddity to say the least. Originally put on the air to target the newly sprawling suburbs of NW Harris county as a religious outfit. After that, it simulcasted, at that time, KULF-Brenham which was a simulcast of KLTR-Caldwell, expanding the "Lite" format's footprint from Bryan/College Station. Actually, that was a quadcast with, at that time, 1090 KNUZ-Bellville as well. Then a couple of years ago, the ownership thought they could target The Woodlands with 105.3. That failed as well due to the same signal issues in The Woodlands as it had in B/CS and Houston, so the station now targets Brenham...i guess.

KTWL is a station that, quite frankly, is in a piss poor position. It can't move anywhere relevant, especially nowhere closer to Houston proper. That chance went out the window with the upgrade and COL move of co-channel KPTY-Crystal Beach to Winnie and increased power to 50kW. IIRC, KTWL had a CP to change COL to Todd Mission and move the facility a year ago or so ago, setting off a chain of COL moves that included 1090 KULF-Bellville changing COL to Hempstead to replace KTWL. I haven't heard a thing about that recently, so that may very well be dead in the water also.

Thanks for analysis, Devil.

I heard a Legal ID saying KTWL serves the Hempstead-Magnolia-Tomball-The Woodlands.

Also, KTWL is now a part of the Astros Radio Network, which serves the West and Northwest area of the Greater Houston area that KBME misses at night.

You can pick up KTWL just west of Sealy, and when the station fades as your traveling west, you may resume listening to the Astros on KULM 98.3, based out of Columbus.
