Ktwv

Hearing lots of changes at the Wave. Hearing more and more urban music and new voices. Just got an email from a friend telling me that Keri Tombazian is out. Anyone know more?

Looks like a gradual shfit to ??? Urban Oldies / Rhythmic AC (70's/80's/90's)

They play currents, I'm thinking Urban-AC.

urban AC stations tend to have a cume that is 90% to 95% African American. That will not work in LA.

The format is not Urban AC. The playlist is made up of pop friendly R&B hits. Not your ordinary Smooth AC. Shall we say a smooth rhythmic AC. Looks like more jazz instrumentals during the evening hours (I don't know if they do a quiet storm type show at night?).

Is KTWV more repetitious than KRTH? I hear the same few songs almost every day: Take Five, Easy, All Night Long, Midnight Train To Georgia, Dreamlover, Always Be My Baby, I Wanna Know, Sir Duke, My Cherie Amour, You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, When Can I See You, When Will I See You Again, Secret Lovers, You Give Good Love, Ain't No Sunshine, Let's Stay Together, I Keep Forgettin', Tears In Heaven, Dock Of The Bay, What A Fool Believes.....and of course KTWV has Bryan Simmons and Mike Sakellarides. Some stations have an HD channel and an HD-2 channel. Maybe KTWV should change its call letters to KOST-2.

They are moving toward Urban AC. Adding several currents in the last two weeks. Toni Braxton, Tamar Braxton, Anthony Hamilton and they are moving in that direction. Maybe they feel this is a way to pull more from KHHT and put KJLH to rest once and for all.

I compared to KTWV to KOST but now I see (and/or hear) that KTWV's format is sounding more like KUTE's "Quiet Storm" format of 1983-87.

Keri Tombazian is indeed out. She confirmed it on her Facebook page. In addition, Frankie Ross, who I haven't heard on the radio since he left KJLH 10 years ago, has been working the afternoon shift on KTWV all week. This is the best indication, aside from the music, that the station has shifted to Urban AC. Here is the link to their playlist: http://947thewave.cbslocal.com/playlist/

I beg to differ. I don't see Stevie Wonder backing down anytime soon. I've been listening for the last few weeks and they've been playing Avant Feat. KeKe Wyatt "You & I", John Legend "All of Me", TGT "I Need" it's a definite shift toward an Urban AC format vs their smooth jazz format. They also have playing some late 90's/early 2000's Urban AC hits such as Jon B. "They Don't Know", Next "Wifey". They actually gave Joe's "I Wanna Know" light spins when it was current according to Radio & Records.

KJLH is the best urban station in L.A....BAR-NONE!

Stevie's been through this a thousand times before. And KJLH has something no corporate upstart has and that's a heritage. It may not be a ratings topper, but it's the real deal.

And stations come and go, flip frequencies, etc. But KJLH is the trusty underdog. They have a strong listener loyalty. And if anything were to happen to KJLH, believe me no matter what the ratings indicate - you would never hear the end of it.

Here is the difference between KJLH and The Wave. On KJLH you'll hear more current R&B along with classic soul, hip hop, gospel and a little bit of jazz. While on KTWV you'll hear only a pint size of current R&B with more classic soul and more jazz.

Looks like The Wave may keep billing as "smooth ac" with a "urban ac" music selection favor. Much like when KBLX in San Fran went urban ac in the early 90s but still billed as a regular ac when Inner City ran it.

Today when I heard KTWV's new slogan, "California Cool," I immediately looked at the calendar to see if this is still 2013 or if we'd somehow slipped back into 1957. :)

Actually KTWV moved to the Mediabase Urban AC panel as of two weeks ago. Is it safe to say that LA has two Urban AC stations now?]

Stations don't "pick" to be on a panel... Simply, MediaBase decided to change the descriptor from the one previously used.
