KTXA-21 (DFW) to start 2 hour prime time newscast

Wow. Although I'm not quite sure where they get the idea that it means we'll have continuous local news from 4 to 10:30. No one runs local news at 6:30 now.

I don't understand why they think there is a need for MORE local news in the Dallas/Fort Worth market. We have too much as it is! Speaking of which, why is "WB 33 News at Nine" still on????

I dont think that'll last too long, I give it 3-4 months tops. Then, they'll be back to either anchoring a 7pm or 9pm cast with some sort of syndicated junk or film before or after.

I have no idea if there's an appetite for that much local news in the DFW market. It has worked in Los Angeles on KCAL for years. I think it depends on how it's done. I curious how they can justify the expense of hiring a totally new staff when CBS 11 already has many well known anchors and reporters that could used for this effort. That's not to say you would hire no one new, but you could rely on the established folks at CBS 11 to bolster a smaller group of new hires.

It would seem like using the second string talent at 11 to anchor the 21 newscast would help both stations bring in more viewers. I seldom would watch two hours of news, but like the idea of having more chances to catch a newscast.

Why are they still on the air? Why is it every other Major-Market WB/CW station (NY/CHI/LA/Denver) can put together a better looking and more cohesive product 2-3 times a day while our own hometown station can barely put together one decent newscast? To me, it falls on the laps of a ND who doesnt care about his team or a Station Manager who'd rather spin money running court shows and springer 3 times a day.
