KTXA's brilliant marketing ploy

As many of us know, KTXA will have some major changes when UPN goes away in September. I don't watch UPN 21 at all and had not seen this ad campaign until sister station KTVT did a story on it. I have to say, this is brilliant. You can see a story about it here: http://cbs11tv.com/video/[email protected]&cid=7

Basically, it plays off part of the station's new logo. It appears on toast and cut into a field like a crop circle in the ads. At the end of the ad it has a website: whatcoulditmean.com. The website now spills the beans on the whole thing. But apparently before they revealed what it was, they just had a link so people could e-mail their thoughts on what this star could mean. It sounds like they got thousands of e-mails.

I'm not sure this ad campaign really worked, but goodness knows we need more creativity like this on TV in the DFW area.

A nice ad campaign, yes.

But running it as a story on a newscast? Absolute garbage. It just shows the journalistic bankruptcy of this organization.
