KTXD dumps MeTV

You can look at this as either the final nail in the coffin, or better late than never; but KTXD has removed the Me-TV label and EPG from 47.4.

They haven't actually removed 47.4 though. Apparently they think they'll have something else to put on that subchannel. Maybe they'll put on Live Well if WFAA dumps it for Me-TV

Hopefully one of these could happen:

1. KTXD would realize "oh so MeTV is a popular choice. We messed up" and put it back on a digital subchannel like 47.2

2. KFWD would dump MundoFox to begin airing MeTV while MundoFox moves to either KDFW or KDFI's subchannels (some Fox O&O's air MundoFox on subchannels like WWOR/New York and WDCA/Washington)

3. WFAA could create an 8.3 channel and could become MeTV (a possible choice we've established, found out Belo owned WVEC/Norfolk, an ABC affiliate, carries MeTV and LWN on a subchannel)

4. One of the low powered stations could pick it up (another possible choice)

5. Another station could come up in the DFW area (not a likely choice)

For those of you on AT&T U-Verse in the DFW area, turn your boxes to channel 136. There you will find the full MeTV national feed. KTXD's boneheaded move is just going to cost them in the long run.

The station lost about 90% of its viewers after the switch and has gained few of them back in the weeks since this change was made. Unless they find a way to brand and promote this lineup they are going to have a very hard time growing the audience. U-verse isn't much competition, but if another station picks up MeTV that will really cripple KTXD's efforts.

At the way it's going, I wouldn't be surprised if KTXD flipped back to religious soon with this move.

One thing that I will say about KTXD's replacement shows.......they really need to get the audio cleaned up and audio/video sync fixed quickly on their new program acquisitions. Watching "All in the Family" earlier today, along with "Barney Miller".....the audio/video sync is off, and the audio itself seems very static filled.

I have noted that KTXD has a serious issue with its overall video quality. It's almost like there's a shutter effect on it. It makes it very hard to watch some things on that station. I noted this particular problem in an SMU game they had a few weeks ago. The game looked a lot better on the SNY cable channel on Fios. I suspect they're going to get innundated with complaints when they air the Cowboys game a week from Monday. It will be the first and last time most people watch that station if they don't fix that problem.

Not seeing that issue on 47.1 right now, but I have seen the effect you describe, often on low-power stations, and it is indeed annoying. It seems to depend on the programming source, as it often goes away when the next show (or a commercial) starts.

Not sure what causes it. It looks sort of like the "judder" you can sometimes see when a 24 frame/sec movie is converted to 30 frames/sec for TV, but it's much more severe.

This strategy didn't pay off. Ratings are down about 80% from the very small numbers they had. Now they have canceled The Texas Daily in favor of Americas Funniest Videos reruns.

Worthless

Broadcasting is the most worthless form of media. If you want anything, the only way to go is streaming, YouTube, and DVDs

If KTXD can carry Community, then why not some other "well-fitting" sitcoms like Seinfeld, Friends, King of Queens, or Everybody Loves Raymond? Kinda reminds me of back 10 years ago when KFWD was independent and the only new show they aired was Becker. It did seem out of place. I am hoping that KTXD would look at other powerful indie stations like KDOC in LA, WCIU in Chicago, or WLNY in New York.

There is speculation on other forums that Gannett will eventually buy KTXD to be a duopoly partner for WFAA. The argument goes that KTXD was not part of the separate Gannett purchase of the other London Broadcasting stations in Texas due to tax considerations of that sale combined with Gannett's sale of stations in Phoenix and St. Louis to Meredith (apparently the deals are structured that the sale of one offsets the purchase of the other.)

I can see Gannett buying KTXD (or at least a LMA) and form a duopoly with WFAA. Maybe their local programs can get some support with WFAA by their side.

With Gannett buying London, they are also scheduled to buy a couple of LDs in the Beaumont area that was LMAed by London from Bluebonnet out of Lake Charles, LA. The licenses for the LDs are going to one of the London brothers but I understand he has a separate agreement to sell them to Gannett once it's all done...I expect KTXD will go to Gannett eventually.

I don't believe Gannett can buy KTXD under current FCC regs. That's why Belo never exercised the right to buy KFWD when they programmed that station. However, there's nothing stopping Gannett from doing a deal with London to program KTXD just like Belo had with KFWD.

Gannett can buy KTXD. It'd be a legal duopoly.

The FCC has limits on the number of duopolies in a market based on the number of overall owners in a market. My understanding was that the DFW market can't have another. (I could be mistaken)
