KTXD lands Cowboys game

http://www.unclebarky.com/dfw_files/4ab6bf67b005718e4d2cce4c868cd9a2-2854.html

The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Chicago to meet the Bears on Dec. 9th in what could be a pivotal game in determining their playoff hopes.

ESPN has the game nationally on Monday Night Football. And in case you haven’t heard yet, the broadcast station rights in D-FW have been won locally by little KTXD-TV (Ch. 47).

It’s a major step up for the Dallas-based, London Broadcasting-owned station, which will simulcast the ESPN presentation. The NFL still mandates that games originating on cable networks also be available on “free” stations in the two teams’ home markets. This will mark the first time that KTXD has secured such rights.

I wondered if they would try to do that. Will be interesting to see what kind of ratings they get.
It's a great way for a low rated station to gets viewers who have never watched the station.
It won't necessarily translate to long term viewers right away, but it can get some occasional viewers fairly fast....people will start to check to see what's there from time to time.

Wait....wah?

I'm lost as to why Barky posted this. The regular season hasn't started and yet a game in December is seen as pivotal to the playoff hopes for the Cowboys?

Unless Barky's a soothsayer, this article doesn't make much sense.

"Could" is the operative word in his post.
Regardless, the game will get many times the highest ratings KTXD has ever seen. It is a very bug deal for that station.

I have a feeling the CBS-TWC dispute is the reason the game didn't go to KTXA.

TWC viewers would be able to watch the game on ESPN.

Had nothing to do with it. Game always goes to the highest bidder.
KTXA/KTVT probably bid against KDAF and KTXD. The first two (CBS and Tribune) are not going to over pay for a game that will also be on ESPN that will likely only get a 10 rating or so. It's worth it to KTXD to over pay and get the game. My guess is their record high rating is about a 2.

Makes sense to me: he's just playing the odds. If the Cowboys continue their recent string of close-to-.500 seasons as expected, a late-December game is quite likely to determine whether they make the playoffs or not.
