KTXL 40 to celebrate its 40TH ANNIVERSARY! Yes, FORTY IS GOING TO BE FORTY!

I saw some of these clips about a couple of weeks ago. There are loads more of KTXL clips (many of the late 70s and early 80s) on YouTube, if Tribune hasn't taken them off already.

Any clips of TV40's NewsPlus with Pete Wilson and Sport with Gary Radnich?
No, but there is some footage of the debut of Meteorologist, STORMIN' NORMAN Jacobs who was later fired due to his arrest of having homosexual sex in a restroom at a Sacramento MACY'S . I am surprised that KTXL still even acknowledge him. ???

There is one clip of the very first NewsPlus with Pete Wilson and Pat McConahay. Also, on YouTube there are a few clips of Pete on TV40. No Radnich though, unless you count his picture and name mentioned in the opening bumper for the news (on the YouTube clips).

The YouTube account featuring these clips is full of vintage Sacramento television- most of it KTXL, and a lot of it Tom LaBrie. At first all his videos were classic Night Comfort Theatre stuff, but eventually branched out into other retro clips- like a KOVR "Newswatch 13" promo, and even some Bay Area stations.

P.S. Is Stormin Norman still alive? And I swear he was on Channel 13 before TV40.

For the record, Norm wasn't fired, he voluntarily resigned. Of course, it was probably more involuntary than voluntary.

Of course it would be okay to have heterosexual sex in the Macy's bathroom. That was over twenty years ago and there are worse things he could have done.

I recall that Stormin' Norman was breifly on the revamped 'NewsWatch13'
He did a terrible job. It was his stand up in front of the map.
He would simply say, "Find your town and you'll see the highs today"
That was basically it. He lasted about 2 months. Then popped up
on TV40.

They are still there, unfortunately I already let Greg know about them so he can inquire about borrowing the clips for the KTXL 40TH Anniversay Special. I hope Tribune won't as those clips are worthless to most people unlike unauthorized clips of SOUTH PARK.

If he didn't VOLUNTARILY resign, he probably would have been fired.

Any Sex in a Public Restroom (whether it be a department store or a park) is still illegal whether it is consentual or not. It doesn't matter whether it be HOMOSEXUAL, HETROSEXUAL, or with CHILDREN, it is still illegal. He got caught in a police sting since there were problems with that particular restroom. Yes it was over 20 years ago and there are worst things but still it is part of history and noone can change it. If anyone brings up the name STORMIN NOMAN Jacobs, of course I will remember that incident. Plus personally I think it is gross to have ANY sex in a public restroom. It is dirty and smelly and JUST PLAIN GROSS!

In addition to STORMIN' NORMAN still being remembered for his legal problem's more than 20 years ago, I guarantee you that Former KGO Radio Talk Host, BERNIE WARD will be remembered for his legal problem's 20 years from now!

KTXL's 40th anniversary will be in 2 weeks from now shortly after KTVU's 50 anniversary in March and at the same time, KOFY-TV in San Francisco will be celebrating 40 yrs too.

And don't forget about KBCW(former KBHK)-44. They were the first to turn Forty Years Old in January.

Channel 20 hasn't been on the air continuously for those 40 years, however. It's been a constant presence since Gabbert bought the station and signed on in October 1980(as KTZO, later KOFY), but I recall that the old KEMO was off the air for some time leading up to that, and apparently, it had gone 'dark' off and on several times since its debut in 1968.
Maybe the newly-renamed KOFY will have a '30th anniversary' in 2010, and simply ignore the periods of other ownership and call letters.

KEMO-TV was dark from Early in 1971 until sometime in 1972. US broadcasting (Overmeyer) took the general entertainment station dark because it was losing money. US Broadcasting sold the station to Leon Crosby who returned the station to air with the same KEMO logo as mishmash of old B movies and hefty dose of Spanish Language programming. In late 1980 after Gabbert purchased the station, he took the station dark a few weeks to make technical improvements and then relaunched Channel 20 as KTZO TV-20. The KOFY call letters arrived to TV-20 after Gabbert purchased Spanish KOFY in 1986. He added the KOFY coll letters to TV-20 and changed the format of 1050 AM to oldies.

I vaguely remember KEMO as a station that ran stock market reports(pre-CNBC) all day, and mostly Spanish language old movies and presumably local newscasts(not the sort of 'telenovelas' KDTV would air) at night.
I believe they even had a very few shows in English...Roller Derby, maybe?
I think I remember the several weeks of dead air(and the much-repeated announcement in the TV GUIDE listings) preceding the start of KTZO, more than I remember anything on KEMO!

THE one hour FOX 40 AT FORTY special supposedy will air AFTER the World Series at 9:pM tonight. Lots Of Vintage Footage from BOB WILKINS to CAPTAIN MITCH and BIG TIME WRESTLING to THE 10:00 NEWSPLUS with PETE WILSON will be on! A Must Watch plus A Must Tape show!!!!
