Ktxl frequency change

I have seen an announcement on channel 40 stating that you need to re-scan your tv at the end of April to continue to receive this channel OTA after this time. Why would this be necessary?

I believe that's when they move their RF from its current 40 to 22. They would retain 40 as their virtual.

I see that channels 31 and 58 are also posting this message. I believe there is a transmitter change in the works also.

There are. 31 (KMAX, CW) is changing their digital RF from 21 to 24, retaining 31 as virtual. 58 (KQCA, My Network TV) is changing their RF from 46 to 23, retaining 58 as virtual.

Got some more info. on this from NAB website. It's called a repack and many channels across the country are affected. Locally, all the previously mentioned stations as well as channel 29 and some low powered stations will change also. It's about cell phone companies buying spectrum.

The highest channel for TV is now 36- everything above that is now for cell phones and wireless internet. Hardly anything left worth watching anyways.

Yes it is the release of 5G that's been mentioned that going to roll out in 2021 that's at play here.

There has NEVER been anything on channel 37. It is reserved for radio astronomy.
ET phone home.

With UHF and VHF now irrelevant in regards to virtual channels, who's to say a station can't use 37 as virtual?
