KTYS-The Twister

KTYS got knocked off the air this morning, anybody noticed??

Minor modification to the “If a tree falls in forest and no one hears it, did it make a sound” argument.

If a tower falls and no advertisers or listeners notice, did it really fall?

They were on when I tuned past - IBOC sidebands and all. Waste of THREE frequencies. One was bad enough. I used to enjoy getting 96.5 from Houston on occasion.

WRR was off the air also.

"Twist the night away."

Yes, Milton.

rbrucecarter...so what is your position on IBOC anyway? oh, that's right, every single post you make seems to say something negative about IBOC...alright, GOT IT...you hate IBOC. thanks.

Whatev ---- I hate the Twister because it is country. That is three dead frequencies on the dial. IBOC is irrelevant because it is already dead dead dead.

The first adjacent channels are only available (c to c) with 150 mile spacing, (IBOC or not) so in no way are THREE frequencies wasted. Why do you hate HD radio? It's a robust, well engineered system, and people who actually own an HD radio are quite pleased?

HD will be the Betamax of it's time. Better product, but it's not catching on. The HD Radio Alliance has done a terrible job promoting...

Whatever happen to Leigh Ann, the night-time jock?

I'm not 100% sure since I haven't talked to Lorri in a while, but I do know she was expecting. It may be maternity leave. In fact, a visit to her myspace page confirms that.

Get a better radio. 96.5 from Houston booms in here in the mornings. It's a whole lot better than anything on the HD-2 channels of COUNTRY stations.

The FRC - forerunner of the FCC - was established to PREVENT interference on the radio. They have chosen to abandon their original mandate and actually legalized jamming of adjacent frequencies on AM and FM. Therefore, they should be disbanded and a new regulatory agency established to once again control interference. It has long been a principle in law that your freedom ends where your neighbor's nose begins. The moment it starts jamming other stations, HD radio violates that principle. I would welcome a digital system that causes no interference to anybody else.

I have a better radio. It picks up the Oasis on 107.5-2 with no commercials.

Whatev ---

I am more than 10 miles from the towers so HD radio won't work in my location.

Even engineers have their doubt about HD (myself included).....And to add to interference, lets see:
1) BPL
2) very little enforcement on power line noise (not BPL)
3) increasing the number of translator stations NOT carrying a local station or station of local origin

HD on FM works but does cause less range of the analog signal from what has been seen in certain markets...remember the analog radios are in the majority and they get the noise from the IBOC sidebands, thus causing issues for the analog carrier.....Digital is not perfect in a moving environment.....I personally liked analog cell phones!

HD on AM is whole other debacle....what a mess it will be.......

BTW went into several local Best Buys, Radio Shacks, etc in the Houston area.....very little HD radio being shown...PLENTY of HDTV s being shown.

Only digital system that will not cause interference (besides Mondale?) is an ALL digital....any hybrid is likely to cause problems......thankfully HDTV got an empty channel for their digital operation.....
