KUBO San Antonio?

A check of some White's Radio Logs online (thank you David Eduardo) show that KUBO was on 1310, which is now KAHL. Those my age remember that station as being the longtime KBUC, which I'm guessing replaced KUBO. Will have to plow through more archives to get a timeline.

The answer is in the obit:

He loved the tranquility and isolation of his home on Ambergris Caye, an island off the coast of Belize. There, the elder Pinkerton and his wife swam, fished and watched the white beaches.

He had a home and business in Belize.

BTW-- KTXN 1370 in Austin became KOKE and it's Spanish roots explains an interesting phenomenon. When I came to Austin in 1975, KOKE-FM was Progressive County 20 hours a day. Back then they block programmed 4 hours of Spanish in morning drive. From 6-10am they were Spanish and from 10am-6am they did Country. At the time Austin did not have a full time Spanish station and I guess the Progressive Country listerners were not early risers so the arrangement worked.

Fred, I recall the Spanish language morning show on KOKE-FM ran from about the time the station was purchased (ex-KAZZ) in 1968, and ran up to the mid-70's. Wasn't Jose Jaime Garcia involved with that? IIRC he was also involved with the launch of KMXX 102.3 in 1976, which programmed a Spanish language format from 5am-9pm, with African-American targeted programming from 9pm-1am.

During the late 60's and early 70's, KOKE (AM) had Arleigh Duff spinning the Country hits 6-10am, while the FM was in Spanish. The AM and FM sides would then simulcast from 10am to the AM's signoff at sunset, and the same country format would continue on the FM through the night until 6am. This arrangement ended when the Progressive Country format was launched on the FM around 1972.

1370 was once again Spanish in the late 70's/early 80's (don't remember the exact years)...weren't their calls KMMM? Lasted a few years before moving on to a string of other formats and call letters.

Keeping up with 1370 is a mental challenge. I believe you're right about the AM/FM country simulcast since KOKE-AM was a daytimer. And I recall them separating programming running traditional country on AM and progressive country on FM. The reason I recall this is that the FM DJs complained the AM jocks made more money even though the FM was wildly popular.

Then the AM went to Spanish as KMMM... then beautiful music after EZ 102 became Z102... then talk? All I recall is that it was Rush Limbaugh's first Austin home before he went to KLBJ.... then a simulcast of KKMJ-FM... then K-Juice satellite R&B... and now talk radio 1370.

It used to be you could ask an oldtimer at the station to clear this up. Not any more.
