Kudos To Howie Carr

Well I have been hearing for many years now that all AM needed was decent programming to make a comeback. This is the test case for it.

The Pittsfield station is probably WBEC
1420. He said the Manch station will be
Adult Standards WFEA 1370 (yes..lead
into him with Perry Como? ) and he's
trying to get a NH seacoast station
(1270? 96.7?)

Ha well sometimes I stuck up for him but
I was one of a few who noticed they didn't
mention WMEX's absence. We'll see if they
show up or maybe his previous RKO listeners
will get him via CRN, CAP (starting tomorrow),
XTK etc. He has some stations willing to
pay affiliate fees and others are maybe him
buying time (like WFEA, soon to be the home
of Neil Diamond, Olivia Newton John, the Eagles,
and Howie Carr).

--older demo..the likes of iHateRadio are counting
on big country numbers in Lynn, Portsmouth, and
Pittsburgh and dumping political talk to 7,000
watters owned by others (Pittsburgh). Pass the Metamucil
(And hey I'll be 54 myself by Feb of '16 and still tuned
to Howie)

--RKO will not go ESPNDeportes as Howie has joked
but you never know (who knew that Mindich was
gonna sell FNX, and to whom? Out with the Green
Day, in with the Lady Antebellum)

--even if the MEX lease fails..I hope it won't...he'll still
have that big regional network

Adding WTSN 1270 Dover NH Feb 2.
I think his new Pittsfield affiliate made news
for being one of the two stations that
dropped Rush after Fluke-gate (so, from
600 to 598...)

WRKO pm drive goes from 2.4 to 1.2 in 25-54 post Howie. Does not mention WMEX fails to show. Of Howie listeners, some may have gone to MEX,
some to CRN or XTK, some to web streaming...and some still haven't found him yet..

Just looked at The latest Arbi----errrr, Neilsen ratings (Holiday Wk #1) and WMEX DOES indeed now show up in the ratings with a 0.6. Which, while meager, is a step in the right direction for a station that hasn't even met the minimum requirement to even appear in the ratings...for YEARS!

Sorry, I didn't see the different dayparts.....I would think that Howie in PM Drive is their big draw. I will try to peak at dayparts next week.

But this rating does put them in the ballpark with WERS, WEZE, WPLM, etc.

Now, can they grow from there...?

(Remember this is the time of year with their very bad "night pattern" -and "critical hours"- signal for most of their broadcast day. Spring and Summer they will be listenable in more places for almost the entire PM Drive.)
