Kudos to KRTH's Engineering Staff!

Had the pleasure of being in the LA area recently and punched up K-Earth 101. Not only did it sound formatically fantastic (love the music mix and Shotgun in PM drive), but the audio quality is unparalleled. Nice highs, tight bass and easy on the ears. You could easily go from "My Guy" to "Joy to the World" (Three Dog Night, not Mannheim Steamroller LOL) to "Private Eyes" without anything sounding out of place. Everything simply jumped out of the radio and made for a spectacular listening experience without major fatigue.

Got back to the NYC suburbs and turned on KRTH's sister station CBS-FM and was amazed at just how awful the processing still sounds. Not suitable for a classic hits format at all. The mics sound muddy, the music sounds muddy, there's distortion and clipping at the high end (especially on brass) and it's not even competitively loud. Probably the softest, most distorted station I've ever heard in a major market.

KRTH, please send your obviously talented engineer(s) out to NYC and show them how it's done!

Also, the music flow, presentation, etc. was awesome. Formatically, CBS-FM sounds great, too, but it's amazing how stellar audio can make for such a more pleasant listening experience. Thanks for the ear candy from LA! Now I listen online all the time. Even the stream sounds great!

Agree 100%. It all starts with a clean air chain. I suspect the facility is well maintained with attention to things ahead of the processor.

Absolutely agree!

It's true. Lynn and his staff have run a superb facility at KRTH since the RKO days. It doesn't get any better.
