No holds barred, Sum 41 in the studio, having a great time playing what they wanted from 7pm to 8pm last night. They are funny chaps, playing stuff from Costello, T-Rex the Clash and more obscure tunes. I give CC credit for doing this, breaking format, IMHO it sounded better than the staged garbage Kidd does. It was entertaining and not phoney. BTW, it seems when I tune in to Kidd, its the same phoney calls, callers upset about the change and how much the station is missed and when is he going to do his old show, what a crock, YSP was drowning and failing miserably with the talk rant, deal with it. Frank Lario sounded great today, lets get Tommy back now.

I hope your not referring to the station mandated safe hits playlist WYSP currently has, which Kidd has no control over. As for material, stuff on Chris's show this week has been a bit shoddy, being that hes resorting to many year old bits to fit in between the same 5 Pearl Jam songs, same 5 RHCP songs, same 6 Nirvana songs, Song 2, Creep, same 4 STP songs, same 4 Metallica songs, nd so on. They might suck, but him live is great.

Because while Chris was (is?) #1 with whatever demo, they really weren't listening to him and were at MMR waiting for THE RAWK 2COME BACK. And the people at the mattandhuggyshow.com forums aren't throwing an "F WYSP" party. And everyone at mysapce.com/screw941wysp is really the same person (kinda like this board has 7 Paul Barskys). Like it or not, WYSP Talks had loyal listeners, myself included (ONA, Matt and Huggy 'til John and Jeff), as ANY station does, whether they are #1 or #20. Being that Chris does a TALK show (and that he is the only one still around), THEY'RE gonna call in and vent and ask questions, Chris wouldn't stage it, because Chris really doesn't care.

WYSP went from being something original and entertaining to WMMR2 (for the time being). I believe the winner of this will be WRFF (who every time I start to think are getting tired surprise me with something I haven't heard in forever [or at all] and make me appreciate them all the more)

WYSP and WMMR are going to war over the same dollars...this is how it has always worked since Marconi invented radio.

On the WRFF take-over - this is certainly not a new concept, nor a new concept to Philly radio...McGuinn at Y100 would do it alllllllll the time. I can recall Weezer, Elvis Costello, Beasties, Lenny Kravitz...just to name a few...in fact, I listen to the Beasties take over once in a blue - they played "Sonic Reducer", which is a PJ rarity cover, and an x-mas single for the ten club back in the 90's...so, 6 degrees of Pearl Jam, thus I like it...sorry, where was I?

WRFF seems "innovative" right now because it's different (or was different) from what the competition is doing. I am pretty sure BEN rolled out with 6 minutes of commercials and no jocks for a nice long while too. The key is the play list. I remember some fraud of a PD talking about "MIX" or "MAX" or whatever it was in an article back in the early 2000's that said "it's about the music, but it's really not"...ah, what?

It's all about giving the people what they want. Right now they want their 90's music again until it gets stale. That shelf life has now rapidly advanced with YSP getting back into the music game and duplicating about 50% of RFF's play list, and MMR doing the same just with less frequency.

There is a high percentage of likelihood that the listener can now hear the same Pearl Jam, Nirvana, RHCP, STP, etc. 90's gold song on 3 different options...dangerous.

As for the RFF play list - the following "oh wows" are getting stale, and become instant tune-aways for me. They need to immediately find replacements for:

4 non blondes
BNL - same 4 songs
Bloodhound gang
Bodeans - kills me that this song is STILL in rotation!
Butthole Surfers
David Gray
Edie Brickell
Hooters
Len
Peter Gabriel - same 2 songs allllllll the time.
Rusted Root
Train

Staind - "outside", is another instant change the dial tune for me...such a downer for a "high energy" station, takes the life out of a music set.

Each track is getting a minimum of 4-6 spins a month...you say that's not that much? Let's say that's 20 songs...120 spins...you tell me if a guy that listens at an equal amount each week isn't going to hear at least 5 of those songs multiple times in a month...and don't say that it doesn't matter, that's why people flip the dial - they get sick of hearing the same thing over and over.

For those that will defend these songs I ask you: don't you think you could find 20 "new" "oh wows" to keep things fresh? You hear Rusted Root once, maybe you sing along, twice and you listen to half the song, third time and you punch the dial with your middle finger and go to WYSP to listen to something angry cause RFF just pissed you off...or maybe that's just me.
