The sale of KKPN 102.9 started the dominoes falling. KLTN, which originally was on 93.3 (with a 104.9 simulcast added later) moved to 102.9.
At that time KOVE, which had been on 100.7, moved to 93.3, and 104.9 became their simulcast. 100.7 had originally been "Puro Tejano" KRTX when it hit the air in 1996, with a flip to KOVE a year later. When KOVE moved to 93.3, 100.7 began a shift to Hispanic oriented Hip Hop under the "House Party" moniker.
In 2001, KQQK 106.5 was purchased and the KOVE format moved there, freeing up 93.3 for KQBU "Que Buena" (the KQQK call migrated to 107.9.) 104.9, which had been the simulcast of 93.3, became the simulcast for 100.7's House Party format. After an upgrade in 2002, 104.9 became the sole home of what became "Party 104.9." Following a short lived simulcast of KLAT, 100.7 became "Orbita", a more pop oriented Hispanic format. 100.7 was sold to Salem a couple of years ago, which moved the KKHT format from AM 1070 to the new FM frequency (resulting in the flip of 1070 to KNTH.)
Hope I remember all that correctly. There were a few temporary format arrangements about the time the frequency shifts were taking place.
