KUFO Galveston?

I do recall that KUFO had the same jingles as KEEZ in San Antonio(mid to late 70's maybe?)...ROCK 106 KUFO and ROCK 97 KEEZ..

I worked there in 1980, the call letters we're KXKX with an AC format and yes Hank Glamon was the PD and the on air lineup was as follows :
6a-10a - Bret Thomas
10a-2p - Casey Love (Kim Fullilove)
2p-6p - George Kelly (George Ferris)
6p-10p - (me)Rick Robbins (Rick Burton)
10p-2a - Mark Douglas
2a-6a - Jared

We had a great time at that station & had everyone on the island listening! We did some cool promotions & remotes and the programming & production we're top notch! As for the background of the station yes it was originally KGBC-FM ( and the transmitter was at their facilities on pelican island), it the was purchased by a group of doctors, the head of that group was Bill Marr and operated under "Beacon Broadcasting". KUFO had run AOR and Country formats, the station went dark for a time and in 1979 came back as KXKX - FM 106.5 and ran until 1981 when it was bought out and flipped to Spanish. that is what I know of it's history.

Hey Guys:

There. That should cover the opening line for your next four posts. Just copy and paste.

I seem to remember a gentleman by the name of Rusty Draper working there in the early 70s. Not sure where he disappeared to after KILE. He did make a few records; one of which I have a copy of. Anybody know what happened to him?

The thing started out as an insurance policy that KGBC-AM wouldn't be overwhelmed by a Galveston FM station, so they secured the license. For a long time most of the programming was merely via tape.

KILE was originally KLUF and had its main studios, transmitter and antenna on Broadway at about 61st Street. The station was sold when its owner, George Roy Clough, one of Galveston's former mayors, passed away. A group of local businessmen bought it, changed its call letters to KILE and moved the studio to the basement of the Galvez. When the Galvez was sold, the new owner (Denton Cooley et al) threw them out, and they moved to a teeny building near Menard Park. By then Tom Wisehart owned and ran the station.
