KUHA/KUHF new programming schedules released...

Nice to have the various BBC news blocks on 88.7. Also notice that Deutsche Welle is there in the evening.

Don't see Hearts of Space anywhere. Assume this is an oversight, as KUHF has carried it for 25 years. Figured it would go over to KUHA. Longtime fan of the show and genre.

I would suspect a major fail if this occurs, but whenever something new is built, things sometimes get left behind or discontinued.

Maybe it will end up on HD3.

I was hoping KUHF would have room for a couple of public radio music programs: World Cafe and American Routes but all news/talk apparently means no room for music...

KUHF could still be a work in progress, so further tweaks could always happen in the future.

Anyone know if the KUHF HD3 schedule is staying the same?

I'm told that KUHF will continue simulcasting its 88.7 FM signal on HD1. The KUHA 91.7 signal will be simulcast on HD2.

HD3 is now used primarily for Spanish language programs and a little of the BBC and that won't change much. They will however shoe-horn in some English language programs they couldn't find room for anywhere else. We'll have to wait and see how that works out.

I think KUHF started it out as a Jazz station, and I was wondering if Its going back to its original format over on HD3? In Fact, Smooth Jazz is a dying format many commercially broadcast stations have been phased out for other music formats

Well, you have to wonder why they waste their time with the format that is on the HD-3 right now. I mean BBC? Spanish? WT* is all that about. If you're going to even bother running something on an HD-3, why not make it something that has the possiblity of attracting a modicum of an audience.

***Smooth Jazz is a dying format***

You answered your own question. Why would a station want to waste money broadcasting something almost nobody listens to?

And mrbeasley is clearly unaware of Houston's huge audience for high quality Spanish language programming. And a lot of people listen to the BBC.

Filo, you may be right. One day the Mexican flag could be flying over Texas again. Or we could be singing "God Save the Queen" instead of "The Star Spangled Banner". So, I suppose our media outlets need to do all they can to help that process along. ;D

You're reversing cause and effect.

Our local radio and TV stations aren't causing the influx of Hispanics. I think I'm safe in saying they're not coming here because of what our radio and TV stations offer.

They're coming here for a variety of other reasons, mostly economic, and the radio/tv media are just adapting to the changing demographics. They'd be idiots if they didn't.

Hispanic population growth is the cause. Increased Hispanic media programming is the effect.

Not the other way around. If Mexico ever retakes Texas, it will be because WE, American Anglos, allowed it. Not because of the Mexican music on the radio. It would behoove all of us to start learning some Spanish.

And just between you and me, it wouldn't bother me one bit to be singing God Save the Queen. I'm of English descent, and I proudly regard myself as a subject of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

My Spanish is lousy, so I don't think I could ever sing Dios y Libertad. (God and Liberty) But I think I could learn it if I had to.

And furthermore,

I think my point is that our world is changing, whether we like it or not. Only fools refuse to recognize that fact and adapt to the changes.

I figure you put a lot of time into that response, excuse me, responses. But I think it was a joke, and a pretty good one, too.

Jason, KUHF's all news & information format starts tomorrow at 4am with David Pitman. Classical 91.7 debuts at 6am with Elaine Kennedy.

Wish I could hear it, but I'm in Dallas/Ft Worth.

So does anyone know when 91.7 will be lighting up tomarrow? Midnight maybe?

Transmitter fired up around 4. Playing Classical 24 right now. Cleanest that signal has sounded in a long time - the dying Optimod 8100 has been replaced.

Been listening to KUHA for a little bit this morning. Audio is more pristine compared to the KTRU days, but I think they need a bit more compression to match what they were doing on KUHF. However, all I've heard so far is very lightly scored musical pieces, nothing yet with full orchestra, so I can't make a final judgement. Given the weaker signal, huge dynamic range in the audio might not be a good thing, despite the acoustic rigors of the Classical format.
