KUHF improvements

In my other post, I mentioned that I stopped listening to KTRH and listen to NPR instead. But KUHF should improve its public affairs programming on its main channel. Other Texas cities like DFW and SA have more public-affairs programs on their main channel. During the day they should interrupt the monotonous Classical music with a news program at noon. At primetime they should have public affairs programming then go back at 22:00 to classical music overnight until it is time for Morning Edition.

I haven't donated yet since I just listen to All Things Considered. But I might donate if they had more public affairs programs on the main channel. The Houston market is not balanced. There are three right-wing talk stations: KSEV, KPRC, and KNTH. It would be nice to have a mainstream counterpoint, in lieu of an Air America station, to the right-wing talk shows.

Any suggestions?

Until/unless Houston gets a full-time Classical station, I welcome what they're currently doing at KUHF... as monotonous as the Classical is to you, the NPR and Public-Affairs content is just as annoying to many fans of Classical music who could do without the talking.

You're right. I think KUHF is doing a fine job in balancing the music and talk, and KRTS isn't coming back. Dallas has Public Broadcasting KERA and full-time classical programming on the city-owned WRR, and over in San Antonio they have Public Broadcasting KSTX along with the classics on KPAC. But for Houston fans of the public radio talk programs or those listeners who want 24/7 classical music, it pays to have an HD radio. In general, when KUHF and their HD-1 channel is in talk mode the HD-2 channel is playing music, or vice versa: www.kuhf.org/site/PageServer?pagename=main_programs_HD_Schedule It means flipping between the two channels now and then, but looking at the talk programming line-up I think I understand the reasoning behind the scheduling.
