KUHF TOH news updates

For the past few Saturdays at 1:00, KUHF has switched to BBC News instead of NPR. It felt inconsistent for the first few times until it became clear that this was deliberate not accidental.

Why doesn't Houston Public Radio have NPR updates on KUHF and BBC updates on KUHA and switch them around when a BBC program is on KUHF?

NPR and the BBC are interchangeable as far as news slots go. Both have five minute updates from :01 to :06 of each hour, with an optional getaway at :04.

KUHA could use either network from midnight to 6am, as the Classical 24 syndicated format has an optional news window from :01 to :06, though KUHA stays with the music feed.

I just found it weird since the rest of the day (except for the BBC World Service overnight filler) they have NPR on, except for that one hour. After that its Texas Originals for the minute and then Rick Steves' show. It's kind of a sudden topic change from London to Texas.

I assume that like most stations, KUHF runs the BBC newscast on "The World," since that's what's on the show's feed (and the Beeb co-produces "The World" with WGBH and PRI). Of course, there's nothing that stops them from airing the NPR newscast instead, since they are formatted the same way.

That's acceptable and expected but when that happens, why can't I tune in to KUHA to get NPR instead (and vice versa)?

I only noticed since this is the only time on Saturday, outside the usual overnight filler, that BBC is on during the day.
