KUKA has got the Corpus Translator on!

Just noticed today that Tejano KUKA from San Diego has its new 94.3 translator on in Corpus! I can get it in pretty good on my regular radios but the Walkman is not so great. Sounds very good.

This station may now have one of the widest coverage areas of any FM station in South Texas.

mmhhhh, it was about time, they went about 4 months promoting themselves as La Tejanita KUKA 105.9 and 94.3 without having 94.3 on.

That seems pretty doubtful considering that 105.9 is only a C3 station.

The 94.3 translator is (licensed as) 100 watts in Petronila. The 60 dbu doesn't even make it to Saratoga.
The 105.9 should have much better coverage in C.C. than the translator.

I don't get the reasoning for doing this unless KUKA gets 2nd adjacent interference from 105.7 in Beeville?

The translator has been licensed since June of 2007, (and has no silent STA).

Drive thru Corpus Christi and see how bad KUKA's reception is.

I'm no Radio expert, but I'm pretty shure they have this translator to have a better reception in Corpus Christi. You know, they do broadcast all the way from Jim Wells County on a mediocre stick. But then again, what do I know.

Pardon my mis-conception...
K232DE is supposed to be a fill-in translator for KMZZ, 106.9 Bishop.
For KUKA, it is way outside the 60 dbu contour (way illegal).

With an FCC monitoring station down the road in Kingsville, I would not expect the 94.3 translator to stay on the air very long.

74.1232
(d) An authorization for an FM translator whose coverage contour
extends beyond the protected contour of the commercial primary station
will not be granted to the licensee or permittee of a commercial FM
radio broadcast station. Similarly, such authorization will not be
granted to any person or entity having any interest whatsoever, or any
connection with a primary FM station.

I can attest KUKA at 105.9 does cover a pretty wide area despite its 10,000 watts. I can get it on CC's Southside pretty good most of the time more than 40 miles away from San Diego. I have also received it not too far distant from Laredo. I do have a GE Superradio but I can get very few other FM stations that far or further away on such a consistent basis.

I've been able to hear this puppy all the way to Houston. Happens like once or twice a month (with the right conditions)

Right, slim. Supposedly the plan was to be a fill-in, which was perfectly legally providing its coverage was totally within the KMZZ contour. But with it rebroadcasting KUKA and both of them being owned by Claro Communications it's illegal.

True. Even if the FCC messed up and approved the deal a while back, having it within earshot might not be such a good idea. Besides, field agents read this board, too (!).

Let's stop talking about this so they keep it up. I like having a KUKA translator in Corpus!

Well...On the other hand, the 93.5 translator is in the same boat.

I would think that other Corpus broadcasters (Pacific, Malkan, C.C., etc.) would be up-in-arms about this, since its stealing ad $ from them.

But then, since C.C. has been known to do the same thing in other markets, they may be afraid to complain.

What happened to the SBE chapter in Corpus?
