KUKQPhoenix (Online-Only) Debuts

From Phoenix New Times (includes various links):
http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2012/03/kukq_returns_to_phoenix_via_th.php

Former X103.9 afternoon host Craven Moorehead (currently with www.SkaPunkRadio.com) and former X103.9 host Hammer are on board with the new venture.

Website: www.KUKQPhoenix.com (barebones for now; streaming not available as of this posting)

Previous thread about the possibility of KUKQ resurfacing on 1060 AM:

At least Gumpdusky won't have to re-install the call letters on the side of the studios in Guadalupe - they never took 'em down ;)

If Sandusky is involved in this why not throw it on to an HD2 feed at least, or their AM signal, or both :)

If Sandusky is involved in it, they don't seem to be taking credit for it.

I gotta say: It takes real dedication and real talent for the "new" KUKQ to make X103.9's flip look good by comparison. Let me see if I understand their deal:
1.) None of their flagship skapunk radio shows can be accessed via any archive (because it's evidently not a podcast).
2.) There's no guarantee they'll ever migrate onto terrestrial AM/FM.
3.) FB account required to hear audio feed?

It's fairly easy (expensive, but easy) to get onto AM radio in this town, at 1100. IIRC, the missing link between the "real" KUKQ and KWSS-LP was an hourly punk music show on KFNX. Wouldn't it be more cost-effective (not to mention credible) to take that route instead of expecting everyone to jump through all sorts of hoops? Hoops suck.

Nope. The webpage redirects to their Facebook page, with no sign of a stream anywhere.

There's lots of links to the skapunkradio website, but no sign of "kukq."

This appears to be done out of someone's bedroom. They've gotten a fair amount of attention by attaching themselves to the old call letters, but they've failed to deliver. I give them credit for ambition, but they should have put the stream up and listened to it for a few days before sending out the press release.

The stream is also available via TuneIn Radio on most smart phones. At least the sound from a cell phone stream would be better than an AM signal on a lamp timer.

If KWSS-LP is already playing a majority of what "KUKQPhoenix" would be playing, it certainly wouldn't be true that you can't hear what they're playing anywhere else, because I routinely hear the likes of Sleigh Bells, Grouplove, and The Ting Tings on KWSS-LP all the time.

TuneIn app hasn't been the same since they yanked KROQ off the app (or more accurately, since CBS yanked KROQ off the app for their own radio.com app). However, I do think having an individual app like indie103.1 in LA, which is one of the station that carries Jonathan L, would be the way to go. Indie 103's app is *much* quicker than tunein: I click the icon and then I simply click play. No buffering, no stream probs. Can't go wrong modeling your radio app after indie103's.
