KULF question

Why doesnt KULF just stay on while they are on 104.7, or is something wrong with the tower? If thats the case then I can understand why they are off the air so long. But I doupt KVIC will take the move over 104.7, that would be good if they did, it will give them more power, but I am not sure if they would do that. KVIC is on all the time, I dont understand why KULF is off the air this long. ???

Like you forgot you started two distinct threads about KULF before this yet new one.
What, is this... an obsession of yours?
Or have you forgotten that, too?

Re: jras20

I use to listen to that station, it was diffrent in ways, but with it being Silent for almost 4 months now I'm just wondering why and when or if it will be back on? People are wondering around also. Just need answers to why.

Roy, there is no reason to be like that with jras. Why couldn't you use one of the opportunities that jras has given you to explain to your listeners in Ganado the reason their station is off of the air? Instead, you belittle him as a poster inquiring about a station that you own, that he wants to listen to. I fail to see your logic. You know, I have defended you many times on this board with regards to our own Henderson owned radio station, KNUZ/Bellville. It has had it's own share of "transmitter problems" as you very well know. I just can't believe that the only time you post on Radio-Info, it is to discredit or blast a poster that questions your station's inability to remain on the air for any length of time. There is no call for the rudeness towards him.

It's called being a listener. You know, the everyday people that listen to radio to enjoy good quality programming. Seems to me that you only care about buying and selling stations. Purpledevil is right, it is an insult the way you backfire at jras, you should at least take time to answer his question. He took the time to care for your stations, maybe you should do the same.

P.S. Why don't you bring back KTWL to serve the Bryan-College Station-Hempstead area. KTWL has a really bad coverage of The Woodlands. Why even bother? I think many people are dying for a Rock station or CHR/Rhythmic. Or maybe even a second Top 40.

At this point Juan, we'd take just about anything. Our stations in Austin County are miserable at best. KTWL is an enigma all to itself. While I understand that Hempstead isn't the most attractive COL to serve, it seems as you said that KTWL and its supposed antenna height increase would best serve B/CS. BTW, I sure do love that golf show in the middle of the PM drive! When Bob says he'll play anything, he really means it! Reminds me of the old story my granddaddy use to tell me about the bull in the china cabinet. It just doesn't belong. Anyway, jras, continue on sir. You post as many KULF threads as your heart desires. We're standing with you.

Funny that they would post something like that, oh well I have my preset on KKBQ-HD-2 now instead of KULF I liked the news segments that KULF did, but I guess I can always get the news off of KIXS, WOAI, KTRH anytime. I know other people who already forgot about KULF.

Re: KULF question....ANSWERED.

You are right, Purpledevil. At any given time I have about 20 different things going on and at the time I was responding to jras20 I was simply having a "brain fart". I do apologize to jras20. I have seen nothing salacious EVER come from his postings about me or anyone else so, once again, I hope jras20 accepts my sincere apology.

Now on the matter at hand in reference to KULF, Ganado. I wrote at some length about the struggle we have had with this station for the last decade in an earlier thread of jras20. We have never made any money operating in Victoria. In some ways I view the Victoria market as a "six-shooter" town like in the days of the "Old West". Its has shown us that might makes right, anything goes, and there are always people willing to beat down the price of value then shop it to the next competitor, and then watch the two (or three) stations fight it out to see who wants it more. Then the "lucky" bid winner gets to spend time, money, great effort to produce good value in a campaign...only to wind up getting "stiffed" for non-payment after great effort to collect...to the point that it becomes like beating a dead horse. The cycle goes on an on for some advertisers. But NOT ALL!! There are quite a few businesses that pay well for value received in Victoria. And to them I applaud and honor. It's just, in my view, NOT enough of them to support so many radio stations in the market. Add to that a once large "cluster absentee owner" that continue to countenance a "dollar-a-holler" mentality and you have a fine mess of a market. Heck, when their "dollar-a-holler" price became "50 cents-a-hollar" we simply passed on the business.
The thing that finally capped things off was having to deal with our tower owner. I will not go into very much detail here but will only say we were charged major market rent which only kept getting higher and higher because he wanted us to "buy" his tower at an exhorbidant price. (he didn't even own the land). And he would actually, against federal law, go out to the transmitter site and flip off and back on repeatedly the electrical power causing damage to our transmitter and equipment if we were late paying the high and usurious rent we were forced to pay.

We decided enough was enough and shut it down and applied to increase its power two-fold and build our own tower and reach an expanded market. Its now pending.

So there you have it. There are some who will probably flame me for being candid or even accuse me of being disengenuous for their own personal or professional reasons. But I hope those of you for or against us can empathize with the situation that dominated KULF for years up until a few months ago. I can assure you that the future of this station is brighter than ever and we hope to reach many old and new listeners with good programming that will benefit the good and wonderful advertising businesses in Victoria and in other regional communities.

Now we understand. Must be a real pain to deal with those types of antenna owners.

Re: KULF question....ANSWERED.

Thanks for explaining apology accepted, I understand. I know its hard to make money in a market like Victoria. But it was nice to have a few more local reception stations for my "cheap" radios I had out there for listening when I was working I hope you can get it back going.

That makes perfectly good sense to me as well, and thank you Roy for the insight. I would like to ask you, if Victoria Radio Works does not entertain the option of moving KVIC from 95.1 to 104.7 as you hope for, where does that leave KULF? Is there another option such as a change in COL that could make KULF a viable option for a Community in more need of representation and service than Victoria? Perhaps a move-in to a San Antonio 'burb along the same lines as what Cuero's KLTO is currently doing?

The current in Curero is Silent I went buy the studio/antenna about a few weeks ago when I headed to Port O connor, nobody was there.

I didn't know that KLTO had gone dark, jras. Must be very good for you, my friend, as you should have no trouble DX'ing KBXX/Houston or KFTX/Kingsville now. How long has 97.7 been off the air? The move to McQueeney must be well on the way.

KLTO was on about 3 weeks ago, its been off ever since, I dont know maybe someone else complained also about it going into KBXX. Yes I am having no problem now getting KBXX with any of my radios now its nice! The site at Curero was off ever since they turned on the new tower over at Mcqueeney. I just still gets me that KLTO could move that close to KBXX. But I'm happy its off guess I need to enjoy it while I can.

To tell you the truth jras, I'm MORE suprised about the spacing between KFTX and KLTO than between KBXX and KLTO. There is going to be some serious slop over between 97.5 and 97.7 in places like Beeville, Goliad, Kenedy, and to a certain extent where you are in Lavaca Co. KLTO is so far out of KBXX's coverage area, I just don't see the FCC even batting an eye over it.

I never even looked at it that way. Come to think about it I was in Beeville a few months ago and it was splattering pretty bad, but I also had a cheap 30$ walkman but that walkman is good and sensitive. I mainly got it for weather infomation out at POC. I wonder what is wrong with KLTO then? It has been dark for a while now.

Re: KULF question....ANSWERED.

Wow, that's pretty impressive answer. FROM WHAT I HEAR the KULF group just failed to sell more than it spent, not the problem as presented below. FROM WHAT I HEAR some employees never even got paid after they closed the doors. FROM WHAT I HEAR they paid no tower rent OR studio rent for about 4 months. FROM WHAT I HEAR, all the KULF equipment has been seized and auctioned already. FROM WHAT I HEAR a certain group in Houston is about to close on the purchase of this station and begin the move in back to H-town.

That's just WHAT I HEAR.

But when I read that drivel below of why they closed.....well, that's not WHAT I HEAR.

hmm Marti, thats what I hear too. :D

Feel free to elaborate on the Houston group, I had not caught that tidbit of info. But really, As long as it's good radio, run correctly, the format does not matter to me.
