kung poau/ Max fm now hot 100.5

Great just what I needed More top 40... NOT! radio has Died IMHO I listen like many other to either Satellite or to Rock streams on my Blackberry...

Other than the poor-signaled 106.1, it's the first mainstream Top 40 in Hampton Roads in many years.

So maybe YOU didn't need a mainstream Top 40, but it was a good move the RADIO listeners IN THE MARKET.

The demo they are trying to attract does not consider radio their entertainment preference. I-pod, Cell phone, internet, satellite, etc. is where they are.

Great stunt...probably made all the progamming people think it was cool, but to a radio listener, just another reason to change the channel and never come back, unless they throw a lot of marketing money at it.

I agree with the GM that maybe alcohol was involved in playing Chinese language stuff. Very 70's promotional stunt.

Hope it works out for them.

Top 40 radio is doing really well ratings-wise, especially under the new and improved PPM system.
This was a great move on the part of 100.5. The new Hot 100.5 sounds great, like a true big city CHR.

Looking over the logs, they definitly look like a mainstream CHR, w/ only a 'slight' Rhythmic lean. Very slight IMO. I also checked Z104s logs an was surprised how much top40 they actually DO play. I hope Hot does well, God knows Norfolks could use a true CHR.

Another CHR has just popped up, just to the north. WMDM Lexington park, MD has finally returned to CHR. The 2 signals just meet each other near White Stone. And w/ Vibe99.3 in Fredricksburg (albiet RHytmic), an the half dozen or so in the valley/mtns to the west, CHR is almost blanketing the state. Somethin that I don't think has happened since the 80s.

I agree that Hampton Roads needs a true CHR. This was a good move by Max Media. The Bad news is that now Rockers that listened to Max FM now have to dread the Horrible poor-signaled 96X and FM99 which is sounding a lot like the Fox these days.

Max Media has very smart people at the helm with a tradition of success when up against national corporate radio.

While I really do believe Max Media made the right move with Norfolk's Hot 100.5, I am sure they will be a success. Now what Max Media is doing in Denver with Hot 107.1 and taking a guess if that will be just as successful, well that may be a bit tricky or at least..way too soon to tell. The last time I was in Denver ( some months back ), 107.1 was "One FM". I don't think Max Media had owned them yet. One FM was a good station but they were the target of a boycott with the religious group "Focus On the Family". I was at a King Soopers ( Kroger ) supermarket in Denver doing some shopping only to come back to my car to find some flyer on my car from Focus telling me to join them in a boycott against 107.1 One FM KONN because ( according to Focus anyway ), that KONN was planning to hire gay porn actor Boyd Summers as a weekend jock. Of course that never happened but the times I did check out One FM, I did notice a lack of local ads on there so maybe that boycott did work ( not sure of course ) but since the signal of 107.1 at the time was great...in the more consverative parts of that city ( where many members of Focus on the Family call home ) I wonder if that was the case? However Max Media from what I heard is planning to get a power increase that will cover the entire Denver metro area. Hopefully that will happen so Max's Hot 107.1 will be a success there as well.

no personalities....we've been doing this for how many weeks?

Their facebook profile had some clues to some people that would be on-air. but, what happened?

Last I heard, they hired afternoons and nights, middays will be handled by the PD, they were still searching for a morning team. But that was about 3 weeks ago. They hoped to have jocks on air by the end of July... so we'll see.
