Years ago ... KUOW took traffic reports from Metro during both AM and PM drive.
Towards the end, they even had the great Harmon Shay doing their AM drive traffic reports. He was able to adjust his reports to really fit the style and sound of an NPR station.
And then they dropped them in favor of the 'host' reading a couple of lines about traffic.
It was a puzzling move then. It was enough for me to switch over to then-KPLU. This is a news station, in a region with a ton of terrible traffic, that dropped their traffic reports during drive time, a staple of both non-commerical and commercial radio stations for years.
I understand that traffic reports are less important these days with your smart phone on the Waze app. But still - they have a place. And KUOW dumped them in favor of their anchor glancing at the WSDOT maps and giving a couple of traffic lines.
Like KIRO7 dropping sports reports 15 years ago; this was a bad move that has persisted for this station and should have been reversed years ago.
