KUPD is indeed what makes Arizona ROCK!

I was wondering how long has 98 KUPD been on the air? I flipped through several different rock stations online before landing on this one and they all sucked. This station has very good song selection and the DJs sound terrific as well. I had thought 93.3 KDKB and KUPD were the same kind of rock but I guess not. KDKB sounds like the Hog stations in Milwaukee and Evansville, WI - older rock mixed with few currents. KUPD rules and it's these reasons that I will keep coming back to listen to them. Well done KUPD guys!

KUPD has been operating with a rock format since around 1979-80 (correct me if I'm wrong anyone). They've gotten "harder" over the years as they needed to differentiate from their sister stations (one, of course, being KDKB). I agree that the station knows their audience very well, except that I personally feel that Jonathan L's show, despite how good it can be, doesn't fit well within its format.

yeah I woke up to Jonathon L on the clock radio this morning and thought what the hell am I listening to?

Jonathon L is not one to play by the rules...or color within the lines. I once heard him play Chumbawamba's "Tub Thumping" on his Lopsided World of L. Lopsided indeed! Why did he play it? Because he could. ;D

Jonathon L has been one of my favorite DJ's since his days on KUKQ. Admittedly he can play some far-out music that leaves you wondering when he will start playing Pat Boone, but he is a talented DJ with vast music knowledge.

Johnathon L is a legend, in this community and in the rock and roll community. He's broken many local and national acts on his show and he's revered and respected by some heavy hitters on the local and national music scene. Glad he's still shaking some people out of their comfort zone. There's too few like him.

Jonathan L has been Phoenix's Rodney on the Roq for years! I love his show and listen to it as often as I can, which, unfortunately, isn't often enough. I've been introduced to lots of great bands by listening to him over the years (and more than a few I hope to never hear again). He's just about as good an interviewer as I've ever heard on a rock station too. So casual and direct, and coming from his encyclopedic knowledge base--he asks completely original, often kind of out there questions and gets great answers from his guests. He's kind of mysterious too--like he's being transmitted from some other cooler place and time where disc jockeys aren't boring. He's absolutely the best.
