KUQI ch 38 Corpus Christi

A few thoughts/questions about this station:
First, someone on Wikipedia wrote that CC's current Fox affiliate KDF (K47DF) announced this past November that Fox was going to move their affiliation to a full power station in 2008. The writer goes on to say that KUQI ch 38 has a construction permit implying that this may become the new Fox affiliate. I wasn't able to find anything on KDF losing Fox and I don't live in Corpus Christi so I don't how accurate the information is.

Second, is this station going to have their digital channel on 38 too? If so, then does that mean there will be three DT ch 38s in south Texas- KVDA San Antonio, KMBH Harlingen and KUQI??

While KUQI does hold a construction permit for channel 38, I found absolutely nothing regarding the impending move of Fox to that channel. Also, the poster that broke the news was a Wikipedia newbie who signed up -- just to report the impending switch.

Since I am a Wiki regular, I've taken the liberty of removing the fact from K47DF's article -- just because there are no sources supporting the fact.

We serious Wiki editors get rankled by people like these alot -- they post "news" without sources (or with false sources), or worse, just blatantly change facts to lies.

KUQI on Dec 31st filed for its license. Earlier in the month, Minority Media TV-38 filed to sell the station to "High Maintenance Broadcasting," located in Corpus Christi; still earlier it had entered into an LMA with High Maintenance and an agreement that HM would construct the station.

From the application to transfer ownership: Exhibit 8
Description: AUCTION AUTHORIZATION

THE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR TELEVISION STATION KUQI (CHANNEL 38), CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (FCC FACILITY ID NO. 82910; FCC FILE NO. BPCT-19960111LP) WAS GRANTED ON FEBRUARY 11, 2005. THE PERMITTEE, MINORITY MEDIA TV-38, LLC ('TV-38'), WON THE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT WITH THE HIGH BID FOR CHANNEL 38 IN FCC SPECTRUM AUCTION #54. TV-38'S WINNING BID WAS $6,804,000 AND, AS THE RESULT OF A NEW ENTRANT BIDDING CREDIT, TV-38 ACTUALLY PAID $4,422,600 FOR THE PERMIT. TV-38 DEFAULTED ON THE LOAN RELIED UPON TO PAY THE FCC FOR THE CP, AND CONSEQUENTLY WAS PLACED INTO RECEIVERSHIP UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE UNITED STATED DISTRICT COURT FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA. TV-38, WITH AUTHORIZATION FROM THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT HAS IDENTIFIED A BUYER FOR THE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT, HIGH MAINTENANCE BROADCASTING, LLC, WHICH HAS WARRANTED THAT IT QUALIFIES AS A NEW ENTRANT, SO AS TO STEP INTO THE SHOES OF TV-38 WITHOUT PENALTY.

You can read the application at http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws...xt=25&appn=101224852&formid=314&fac_num=82910

Obviously, with the drop-dead expiration date fast approaching for this station (Feb 11, 2008) --unless the FCC tolls the CP, which it has done in matters that involved judicial and other legal proceedings-- it is clearly urgent for something to be done.

In the application, High Maintenance's street address is the same as for KXPX-LP/KTOV-LP (600 Leopard St #1924) rather than KRIS/K47DF. The e-mail address for the High Maintenance contact is for someone at kxpx.com.

Perhaps the MyNetworkTV programming gets a full power signal?

The reference to moving K47DF's programming to a full power signal could also mean having it broadcast as a subchannel on KRIS-DT. It wouldn't necessarily mean KUQI.

I'm surprised that KRIS-TV hasn't put K47DF's Fox programming or KAJA's Telemundo programming on it's sub-digital channels, they put the CW on the channel and that's it. You think they would put Fox on their first before the CW. I'm sure if KRIS decides to put NBC Weather Plus on their channel with an addition to the programming they have that would fill all of their channels. Maybe they'll have the channel lineup like this.

6.1 KRIS-TV (NBC)
6.2 CW Network
6.3 K47DF (Fox)
6.4 KAJA (Telemundo)
6.5 NBC Weather Plus

The newspaper article states the signal will reach as far south as Raymondville, some how I don't believe that. From what I've read on other websites even people in Corpus Christi are having trouble picking up this station.
