Kurt Johnson out at CBS

AllAccess reports that he's taken a job with Townsquare--something. Siebert, Henry, Spittle, McNeill...looks like all of the "old guard" is finally gone. I know I'm not crying over it!

More info on the company Kurt's headed to:

Townsquare Media, based in Connecticut. Bought the remains of GAP Broadcasting a year ago. Specializes in medium-market stations, and built most of its holdings from GAP and from medium-market Clear Channel stations they were selling off a couple of years back. Stations under Townsquare that you all might know of include KDOK-AM and KNUE-FM in Tyler-Longview, as well as KNIN-FM in Wichita Falls. Townsquare owns 165 stations across the US. No mention of a Texas office, but I can't see Kurt's wife Terri leaving Traffic.com/NAVTEQ, as she's based here and apparently is well paid.

The original GAP office was in Dallas. When, they started GAP West, they opened a second office in Denver. As I understand, both of those offices remain open since GAP bought Regent and folded everything into Townsquare, and Kurt will work out of the Dallas office.

I've known Kurt to be quite human- not just in comparison to other corporate heads- but an actual human. With a heart. And with a job to do. A job that is not fun for him when he's given no choice but to chop the heads off of employees he's work with and grown fond of for years. Perfect? No. A little corporate suck-up-ish? Yes. But his longevity and success in this business speaks volumes.

Good luck in your future endeavors, KJ.

I don't know Kurt personally, but I do know a lot of folks inside the CBS Dallas cluster. I've never heard a bad word about Kurt from any of them. And I will tell you this: having a boatload of experience with the adult hits format, Kurt had about the best take in the country on how to make the music mix work. Dallas is by far the best sounding of the Jack stations (and any of the other permutations of the format out there).
