I've been reading a lot of negative feedback here about the Fox Sports Radio network. I wonder what goes on over there?

I just read on another site about Kurt Kretzschmar, the guy in charge of signing affiliates to join the network. Apparently when he first started at FSR, he had to sign so many stations as his quota. So Kurt signs an unlicensed radio station in Arizona as an affiliate!!! Apparently the FCC threatened to shut the station down several times and Kurt and Premiere networks looked the other way!

That is pretty sorry! I'm curious? How does one clear national spots on a network, using pirate radio stations for market clearance? ???
 
Well guys, I have known Kurt for a number of years; and he has always been a guy on the "up and up" with me and the stations I've had.

So, until you do business with the guy; don't pass judgment so quick. It usually comes back to bite you in the -$$.
 
Hey Boss, nothing personal against this guy - who I do not know personally.

I just read a blog that talked about him signing KBXZ-AM-radio to an affiliation contract with FSR.

Do you see this station anywhere listed? It's not!

The blog mentioned that Kurt was aware this station was not real - but signed them anyway?
He may be a good guy - but is this ethical just to build an affiliate roster and please your bosses?
 
So you've got one example...albeit from a blog...of someone supposedly doing something one time several years ago that you don't know the intimate details on, and you're questioning his ethics? Are there any facts anywhere to support this?
 
Yes, look up that station in an FCC database. It is not legit! Currently carrying Fox Sports Radio.
Blog was written by contributor to Inside Radio. No reason for him to lie? It is as it appears to be!
Maybe someone should ask Kurt? He can defend himself here if he likes, right?
 
When did he sign up the station? What was the level of the affiliation (all programming? nites/wknds? something else?)? Might the station have since gone dark? Could the affiliate have deceived FSR? Were there possibly other implications to the affiliation that involved other Premiere products or properties that you're not aware of. I'm simply saying there are a lot of facts to be established before you draw a conclusion. If, in fact, facts are relevant.
 
Just talked with him, today.. Very up front and really wanted to see what I needed and how he could match the offer from ESPN.. He topped it.. But, now I must decide slam dunk affiliation with listener branding for several grand up front each January vs a up and coming line up with wider demos offering total barter.... Cadillac vs Lexus...... What would you do?
 
Do you want (or get) ESPN's lineup of play-by-play with it? Is the barter load the same? Are there cross-promotional opportunities with a local ESPN or Fox TV station? Will either network help with marketing? Have you talked to GMs in similar sized markets in your region to see what input they can offer? Are you doing any local programming that requires delaying the network feeds, or would present opportunities for the network's experts to have a regular presence? Is it a problem for either network if you pre-empt for local play-by-play? Just some things to think about.

Investigate this and then post YOUR findings, you will see what I'm talking about.

I really don't have the time or interest. At first glance, it looks like a low-power station that might be covered by the following: www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/lowpwr.html. If it's attached to the university there it might not need a license. Certainly the website doesn't need to be licensed.

You've obviously got an ax to grind...just not sure why. The website has links to other Fox operations aside from FSR...I'm going to assume some lawyers signed off on this somewhere.
 
I have NO axe to grind? I'm just curious how this is possible? I'm a former owner and engineer. I do like FSR, especially JT The Brick and Chris Meyers. I was just sharing what I read on a another board about Kurt. I assume your defense of him, you must be his friend? I just want a responsible broadcaster to answer this, not you, you are too involved!

OK. So we've got a notice from 2005. Any idea what's transpired since, or why the FCC hasn't shut it down? The operators sure don't seem like they're hiding...in fact they've even got their contact info (same address as the FCC notice) on the Contact page of the website. Seems like there must be more to the story...I just don't know what it is.
