KUT's 9.3 vs KGSR's 2.3 with almost identical cume

KUT is #1 in the January Austin PPMs while KGSR is #16 even though KUT only has 1,000 more listeners than KGSR. Isn't that interesting? KUT has the kind of long-term listening that kept beautiful music FMs at the top of the ratings in many large markets in the 60s and 70s.

My feeling is that Emmis is pretty committed to KGSR. And it bills relatively well.

If Emmis ever decided to go another way with 93.3, I think it very likely would be a 590 simulcast.

Emmis already tried country in this market. KLNC ... Lone Star Country. Doubt they'd do it again.

IIRC-- Lone Star 93 was on LBJS' watch. When Emmis bought the group, 93.3 was doing Mega. So Emmis Austin hasn't had their shot at country yet.

I think an interesting exercise would be to break out KUT's numbers into music and news/talk dayparts. I'm suspecting that the lion's share of their listening is during NPR segments. Can anyone shed any light here?

Forget Mega and country. They need to bring back Hot 93.3! The current hip-hop station in ATX is wack!!

Hip Hop is just not doing well, that is why Clear Channel is not spending any more money on the Beat.  Same could be said for Mega at Emmis but since it is on HD, it obviously does not get the attention it deserves.  The fact is the Beat is on FM, and Clear Channel is choosing not to do anything more with it at this time...  With Top 40 Moving toward Dance, I think it would be a good move.  96.7 is not going to be the only Top 40 station in Austin forever, somebody should move in eventually.

eh, its not a really unexpected, there were rumors flying around that they would. Still Hip Hop as a format is taking a hit right now. The sound is stale and unless something is done about that, it will continue a downhill trend IMO.
