KUZN 105.9 Centerville

Does anyone know anything about this station? I hear it is for sale and that they are asking $500,000 for it.

It's a Class C3 that doesn't cover a lot of people. Decent signal into Huntsville, but barely makes it to Bryan-College Station, probably below a comfortable listening level for most people. It used to be KTCJ, which had a very short life as a Black Gospel station. It had been dark for a while, but is back on with a Country format, though the last time I drove through that area, it was pretty messed up, with the audio constantly cutting out.

The cheap sale price is a reflection of the lack of potential listener base. And it probably can't be moved closer to Houston (KHCB 105.7 first adjacent) or to B/CS (KTTX 106.1 in Brenham also first adjacent.)

Facility sounded good during the KTCJ incarnation, but obviously had few listeners and no revenue, therefore flopped quickly.

Do you really feel that $500,000 is a cheap price for this facility?

Yes. Any FM price under seven digits is a red flag that there's not much revenue potential in the coverage area.

Reminds me of KZRC 92.5 in Markham, which also covers a lot of nothing and has been on the block around $500,000 for some time now.

KZRC covers very little geography in an already over-radioed area. If you showed the fella up in the Chicago area a $175,000 check for Markham, I'd bet he'd sell. All you're buying there is the frequency...the place is a toilet bowl.

On the other hand, Madisonville, Centerville, Crockett, and...to some degree...Huntsville, could generate you some revenue. I just don't think half-a-million for a station out in the middle of nowhere is a realistic price.

But...you know what they say...there's one born every minute and one of those will buy that station.
