KVCE 1160 Switching to Foriegn-language Monday (11/30)?

From a reliable source OUTSIDE the business, I hear The Voice/KVCE-1160 will be speaking in tongues starting Monday morning. And corroboration on this? La Volce, perhaps?

100%??? Does this mean dropping Patrick's programming AND BizRadio programming??? Perhaps in their current condition, Mr. F. can't "pay the rent" here either. At least two employees at BizRadio Houston were shown the door last week. Happy Thanksgiving, folks!!!

Let's see...this is Dan Patrick's station, the one where he secretly sent a board op up the station's tower in Lewisville to hang a Mexican flag, with the ruse being that Farmers Branch Hispanics were P.O.'ed about Patrick's stance supporting the ban of illegals from renting apartments in the city, and that it MUST have been those angry Hispanics that put the flag there! (Great PR stunt...free news coverage and all.) And now he's peddling the station out to foreign language interests? Hispanic, perhaps??

KVCE is where the BizRadio Network offloaded some of its last-gasp programming the last few months, correct? So will that signal the absolute END to any BizRadio Network presence in DFW? No chance of any "Best of Mrs. 'Imelda' Frishberg" talk shows being re-run elsewhere? ::)

Oh, how the mighty have fallen...Patrick, Frishberg and company.

So is First Broadcasting taking the station back via default? Andy, any U-Hauls backed up to the Post Oak Towers down there lately? Moving dollies scattered across the hallway?

1160 Has been carrying Asian Programming for some time now.

They Are Asian Programming Now.

Were Getting Close To Having Just As Many Asian stations As Spanish :D

When I tuned in around 9:20 this morning I heard the mention that Radio Salaam (???) was on 870 in Ft. Worth as well. I flipped over there and noticed that 870 was way ahead of what was on 1160, perhaps by 30 seconds or so.

Let me guess, 1160 is rebroadcasting 870 via an internet stream. Since all 1160 programming originates from Houston what I was possibly hearing was the stream going first to Houston, being integrated there and then sent back to Dallas. Wow! That's a whole new definition of an STL!

Does anyone know if the feed to 1160 in Dallas is ISDN, T-1, satellite or via the net?

I wonder if they'll have an Indian/Asian version of Skeeter. His car fix-it show was a must listen for me on Saturday afternoons.

I thought Dan Patrick owned KVCE outright.

Oh wonderful. ::) Maybe Mrs. "Yoko" Frishberg can bring back her own version of "Cafe 990" there. She was so crafty on 1360 with taking existing celebrity interviews and grafting her own voice over the original interviewer's voice to ask the questions.

The website says "24 hour a day programming." What will they fill the 21 hours with outside of Dan's 3-hour daily financial services infomercial? And it's much the same situation as it was with 1360...why program ANYTHING of value when the station's in power-down mode? Nighttime power hits about 5:30PM now; 1360 powers down to 920 watts, and 990 powers down to 700~ watts. I've got light bulbs that put out better than that.

Oh nooo!! Did Skeeter's Car Doctor Radio Show get displaced again?

FWIW, the "Radio Salaam Namaste" Indian/Pakistani format was leasing KZMP-FM 104.9 for quite some time. It got replaced a while back with similar programming from the "FunAsia" group that operates some movie theaters and also leases the time of KHSE 700. The "Radio Salaam Namaste" programming moved to KFJZ 870 at that time. It looks like starting today they will now simulcast on KFJZ and KVCE.

This will be BizRadio's fourth facility to lease -- KMNY 1360, KJSA 1110, KVCE, and now KFCD.

It's amazing all these leased facilities with no ratings ... whether in English (BizRadio, Rational Radio on 1360, KVTT on 1110) or one of the many non-English brokered outfits (540, 700, 870, 890, 1220, 1440, 1480, 1600) ... generate enough revenue to stay on the air.

Agreed, chip, and as I've mentioned here before it amazes me how many of the stations either have CP's or have applied for substantial power increases. And as you noted a while back KTON Belton has applied (again) to move into the market as well. Upgrades of any kind are expensive, the economy is awful, and it's the owners, not the people who are leasing the stations that are pumping cash into this all but dead medium.

Not to mention every increasing interference on AM frequencies.

That is absolutely true. The band is clobbered with all these stations that nobody listens to, not to mention all the IBOC hash.
