KVET (Austin)--Bucky and Bob

Is the new CC management trying to phase out the Bucky and Bob morning show? It's mostly music now and very formatted "conversation."

New CC program management is determined to flush everything that has made that station great.
That's what happens when you put the programming in the hands of idiots.

What's up with all the changes there? They have good numbers.

no they dont have good numbers. Bucky and Bob are somewhere around 13th with Persons 25-54. They may even be worse than that.

I'm talking about numbers for the station as a whole, not just mornings, since there have been several other recent tweaks at KVET, including the PD's departure and Tom Allen walking away after they tried to change his show.

Updating the country gold show is a tough call. After all-- eliminating the 50s and 60s still leaves you 40 years of country music. When I was a DJ at KVET in 1989, forty years would have taken us back to 1949. I don't recall playing a lot of pre-1949 country back then.

So, Fred's present-day country gold show would EXclude artists like Ray Price and Hank Williams, but, would INclude artists like Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts. I think we can all be thankful Fred went into TV.

That's rich coming from you Tom Allen.

What people in general need to understand about radio..is that it's flat out fickle...much like UT fans are. Don't you remember sitting in those consulting meetings about how listeners use the radio as an appliance? Sorry, but KVET is just moving into modern times. That doesn't mean I agree with them, but the market is saturated with newer stuff because that's what the market supports. Why do you think there isn't a viable oldies station anymore?

I wasn't saying I agreed with the change. I believe Tom and his music were a perfect match. But I can see the logic behind the station's move. I'm 54, the top end of the 25-54 demo. My teen years were centered around 1970. The 40-year-old at the center of the demo today was a teenager in 1985. Oldies to them would be 1970, the "Modern Country" days. In a few years oldies will be the "Continuous Country" days. Time marches on.

I was in town Sunday and Monday, I didn't notice a huge difference but it did seem they played a tad more music. I was surprised though to learn KVET was started by veterans.

I am surprised by the changes to Tom's show. My understanding was that that show was kind of used as a model for the sales staff because they actually made good money off of it. That could have changed, but I know that was the case at one time.
