KVET CONTINUES TO SLIDE

KVET-FM goes from a 5.8 to a 5.2 to a 4.8; falls to 9th; cume continues to drop; definitely trending downward. So, MozeMan, how are those new changes working out for ya?

The only time I listen to KVET now is free Texas music series and sometimes the road house, other than that I don't tune in any more.

What's falling off is the 55+ audience. The station is gaining is 25-54's.. the station is still going through a transition with the audience... I think it sounds better than it ever has... it's more consistent, I like the era the station has moved into... 80's, 90's stuff... good era for country and a lot of great music now being aired on KVET... much better than the old fart stuff that was on a year ago...

Sound better than it ever has? Really? All it does is repeat songs now.

Well Tom, since you've asked so nicely: Radio512 is correct in that it appears, at a cursory glance of the breakdowns, that the dip in 6+ numbers (which nobody sells by the way) is due to a dropoff in the oldest demos, which were very large but useless business-wise for KVET as the PPM era dawned. Though I should probably not say anything specific about it in a public forum, we are seeing great growth in several dayparts among the "money" demos. I mainly pay attention to my own show's numbers, and May '11 was very chicky. Great growth in target female demos...I like females. Tied with or beating beloved sister station KASE in many of the targets.

But then this is ratings, ratings come and go, and there is a lot more interesting scenery in the picture: huge crowds at the Series, great relationships with happy clients, grateful artists and passionate listeners, sponsorship packages sold out or close to it, management who believes in me, shares my vision and has my back as I produce a rather strange show, and a parent company with enormous resources to draw upon. I am serving a community that I love dearly, and it is paying great dividends in many different ways. I am enjoying the hell out of the most successful and meaningful period in my radio career.

So yeah, things are pretty good, thanks for asking.

Don't let these guys beat you down... I don't really understand what the "bone" with KVET is.. whatever it is, it's their problem - not yours. KVET sounds Sooo much better, from the talent to the imaging and especially to the music... keep up the good work.. I'm sure it will pay off quickly... congrats again with the recent gains.. the station sounds better than it has in the last several years.. period. Anyone that disagrees with that, really is not grasping radio today...

yes, Moze. KVET sounds great. Much better than in the past couple years.

fredcantu was begging online for votes to be a part of KVET a few months ago. Now he hates it. Funny how things change.

JESUS H. WEREWOLF! It never stops! Peeps need to breath... sit back.... and simply see what happens... to KVET. If the changes work out.... then that is GREAT... and the haters will simply have to deal with the change.... or go find some other station etc... to listen to.

If the changes DON'T work out.... then the haters can rejoice and throw a damn parade.... and chances are KVET possibly reverts to the old model, good or bad, and the haters will have nothing to complain about.

Bottom line.... like it or not... KVET is going to be whatever makes money. It can be sad... but it's true... and we ALL know it.

I can confirm that KVET has made some significant gains over the last 6 to 8 months in the sales demos. In 18-49, which is becoming the "new" 25-54 they have moved from below a 3 share to the lower 4 range.

Considering what we see country doing in some other Southwestern markets (Phoenix with neither country operation in the top 10 25-54 or 18-49) KVET's growth (and that of its in-house "competitor," too) is quite interesting to watch.

I was hoping to have a part in continuing a great tradition. The job posting gave no indication what the near future would hold.

all kvet did was short the playlist.. Killed the morning show.. if kvet was trying for younger people... Look at khfi number one and they have a great morning show as well as a good station.

so everything went sour with KVET only in the last few months? after you applied and didnt get it.

seems like you are saying its been bad for at least 2 years. and why would you want to be involved in something thats so horrible?

you seem slightly hypocritical fredcantu

I'll be honest....all my criticism of KVET is based on the morning show. That seems to be the only real change that I have noticed other than the imaging. The Roadhouse is as it has been and is a great show, cudos to Chris Mossier who pretty much runs that thing head to toe. I think that the station misses the Country Gold show on Saturday mornings which always was a money maker and in fact was used as a prime example of cost per point selling (or something like that, I just know that it made money).

In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, the morning show has become irrelivant and unlistenable. Every time I turn it on, I hear either a song I don't really want to hear or a traffic report. The few times I do hear talk, which is what I tune in for, I hear the very forgetable Chris Bender who can't speak for longer than 20 seconds at a time and the segments are so short that he doesn't have to. The most successful morning show in the CC cluster is the Bobby Bones Show and it has the most talk (with the exception of the Zone which is a different animal). Why take KVET in the opposite direction when it has had years of success, not in just ratings which fluctuate up and down, but with its ability to make money, to be relevant (time was when there was news around the city, the TV cameras came to film part of the KVET Morning show. Now that ground has been left to Jeff Ward...) and to be part of the Austin culture. Now its just another forgetable morning zoo kind of thing that sounds like a station about to change formats.

By the way, I am smack in the middle of the target demo.

I have tried to listen to the new morning show on KVET, and to me they seem to lack chemistry, and don't get me wrong I also thought that Bob and Bucky didn't have that spark that seems to make a successful team, but this crew seems oddly uncomfortable with each other.

It doesn't sound like Bob is enthused at all, and frankly I've never thought of him as the typical 'morning show guy' his humor is not zooish humor. Maybe they're still trying to figure out how to work together, and eventually they will, but right now it's almost painful to listen.

Since it's now mostly music, I can get that anywhere so I now find myself hitting the button after a couple of minutes and tuning in the KASE morning show, (which is something I never used to do) and I've found that team seems to get a genuine kick out of each other and they are fresh and upbeat and the show is tight and the segments generally get a chuckle out of me.

I've never been one to want to revisit the 'good old days' because local radio will never ever be what it once was, but something needs to be done to the morning show at 98.1 to make it listenable again.

To me, I'm done with KVET. The road house and free country music series is the only thing worth listening to KVET any more.

Man I hate corporate hogs who are so big headed and self-centered that they have to say such egotistical ******y statements when people criticize a change. To paraphrase a bumper sticker I read: "I will keep my [CDs], [iPhone radio apps], and [Pandora]. You can keep the change."

The Roadhouse is the best show on local radio here in Austin and I know many friends from all over Texas and beyond that tune in online to hear great music. This is what Austin needs.

I still think they need to add Hank Williams SR. at least on the road house, and a lot of other 50's swinging songs.

Ok I'm in my 30s, but I like that music as well.

Where are those statements? Not on this thread, for sure.
