KVFW-LD 38 NOW ON

Another low-power 15 kW digital facility is now on in the D/FW market, transmitting from the Milton Tower in Cedar Hiil. It's KVFW/38 showing PSIP as ``KVFW-LP'', currently all four subchannels are color bars. The licensee is Gerald Benavides of Corpus Christi. It will likely carry the Spanish language religious programming from Reino Unido Network, as KVFW did when it was an analog facility.

There are now 25 digital (low and full power) television stations in the Dallas-Ft. Worth market.

Benavides actually has stations on the air? His AZ stations (one has now migrated to Boulder City NV now) are phantoms - fully licensed, but have never been seen.

KVFW coming loud and clear in Decatur with a solid 30% signal.

Is the digital transmitter in Cedar Hill? From Plano, I am getting the signal on my antenna pointed north for KXII Sherman but not on my antenna pointed at Cedar Hill.

Not getting this signal in southern Tarrant Co (Crowley area). Also still not getting WFAA if anyone at Belo cares.

KVFW is shown as being on the same tower as KUVN and the MAKO stations (K31GL, KHPK, KJJM and KATA). The registration number for that stick in Cedar Hill is 1055009. I'm further north (in Frisco) and, unlike you, my UHF elements must be pointed toward the south and slightly to the west to capture KVFW.

By the way, another MAKO low power digital might be firing up before too much longer. The STA for KODF to operate on RF-27 (also from that same tower) was granted today. The details are here:

Their transmitting antenna isn't very high, so it'll be a challenge if you're more than 25 mi. or so from Cedar Hill. A roof-mounted antenna will compensate somewhat. It's just above the breakup threshold here in south Garland (30 mi. out).

Comimg in good in N.FW.

I can get 38.1 and the subchannels just fine using my little Hauppage HVR-950Q USB digital tuner stick, and a simple set of rabbit ears wrapped with foil. :) It's not a very exciting program they run, but it sure is colorful!

Any ideas on what they might actually broadcast once they get tired of full-frame color bars?

Almavision, a Spanish religious network, is now on. Weirdly, it's on 38.3, while 38.1 and 38.2 are still color bars.

Even weirder, 38.4 is now a black screen (like 31.2).

It's what I like to call the "Low Power Roller Coaster Ride". And DFW is perfect for that. With this, the Low powers start off with Color bars, like K31GL and KVFW. Then it goes on 1 or 2 channels at a time Like K31GL is 2 and KVFW is 1. Then the channels have problems with their audio or video capabilities. Then some of them shut off and then turn on again. An up and down process....

KVFW/38 seems to have been off the air for the last several days. Not that it's missed.

Incidentally, it appears they were rebroadcasting Almavision from a Dish Network receiver. Their dish was knocked offline by weather for a short while a few weeks ago, and I recognized Dish Network's "signal lost" message (since I have Dish Network myself).

Anyone recognize the programming? It doesn't appear to be Almavision.
