KVI prediction

Yay fun.

So KVI = no ratings,
Fisher is a UNIVISION affiliate...with a Univision tv station,
Univision is launching a 24 hour news format for radio,
so ready for Univision AM 570?!

I would say possible, but not likely.

The hispanic population of the Seattle metro is not big. However, if there is a niche market there, then maybe. I still don't think so.

Can't rule it out, a half a share in a stand alone highly specialized format is better for sales than where KVI is at now.

Yes, true. The revenue aspect here is most important, though sad it comes from a former major AM signal in Seattle. KVI has a legacy, and like KHJ Los Angeles, it is has become somewhat unimportant. Sad, but time moves on.

Those guys with the "Sarah Palin" and "Ted Nugent" and "NObama" bumper stickers will %^&$ bricks if they suddenly hear Spanish language programmed on their beloved 570 frequency.

How's that "Build the Damn Fence" thing workin' for ya?

"Univision 570 - todas las noticias". I like it! ;D

The problem is that Fisher doesn't know how to market its stations. KOMO is still doing well because of the six years of promotion they had with the Mariners rights. Star does well because it's...well, Star. But Fisher has botched the marketing of both format changes. Face it - you can't get people to listen to a new station when the bulk of the marketing is barter spots on your digital sub channel.

My money's on July 4th for the flip.

I tuned in last week to get the legal ID on tape to hopefully put up on tophour soon. What immaging they had was kind of boring, and why put Clark Howard, someone pretty much unknown to this market, opposite Dave Ramzey, much more well-known? As for the format prediction, not sure what to think about it.

To make a flip like this on July 4th? Talk about really getting some peoples blood pressure up. ::)

How long have they given this format a run, 6 months?

KVI flipped to it's first oldies format on July 4, 1984 (also the same day KHIT first signed on.......)

That's one way to get publicity for the format change, isn't it? So it might actually be a smart move.

The current KVI PD has tried lifestyle talk on several Seattle and Portland stations with little success. However, that means nothing against him. Instead, it recognizes that he along with KVI management are not in touch with what generates ratings. Lifestyle talk does not sell. It is worthless to go after women listeners with this format. Programs need to be political in nature, and highly passionate, where hosts loosen up and talk about themselves. It's an election year, and this is even more true.

Do you think that Herb Weissbaum - as a news guy - not a personality - will do this with his new KVI consumer show? Will just one new show generate numbers to somehow move KVI from a 0.1 to 5 shares? Of course not. Longetivity does not give a news guy high ratings when they've never been a personality. Same problem with Dave Ramsey and Clark Howard - no personalities. To get 5 shares, KVI need traditional conservative talkers with personality that succeed in other markets . . . Mark Levin, and both the local and national shows of Lars Larson, along with morning news and an afternoon local host. Only in this scenario could Weissbaum generates reasonable ratings during an afternoon drive show, even w/o a personality, but he would need a co-host.

Fisher will need to make arrangements with Salem for these contracts. KLFE will never make it either until they broadcast Larson and Levin live. Relegating them to the evenings, with poorly rated SRN hosts daytime is a recipe for failure, given the poor signal at 1590 / 5kW DA-N. KVI has a great signal and should have those contracts. KVI just needs to stop listening to the liberal lifestyle talk consultants at Talkers Magazine seminars.

Meanwhile, removing Weissbaum from KOMO afternoon news will be a mistake, and will cause problems for both stations especially if they put him head to head against Hutyler and Shannon on KOMO. I am sorry to see the ratings disasters from poor management at Fisher.
