KVI To Flip To.....Regional Mexican?

The word is out: Oldies. Tom Hutyler and Marina Rockinger from KOMO are doing mornings.

If true, I called this so to speak earlier in the thread; actually I said "If I flipped formats, I would flip it to Oldies/Classic Hits".

By the way, is this confirmed or is this just rumours?(to borrow an album title from Fleetwood Mac); and if true, it's a good flip and I would listen regularly.

"conservative talk, no apologies"

if KVI flips to ?, would they offer up an apology at 11:59 ?..........

KVI music on AM circa 2010? music on AM doesnt work? at least thats what weve been learned by the radio and/or TV guru.........case closed

what a time for KVI to bow out, right after the republican wave on tues..........weve done our work, now its time to move on, with our heads held high........

if KVI were to switch, is the door now open for salem to bring on the syndicated talk...again? KKOL or KLFE "right wing talk on the right hand side"

It's confirmed. They even hired away the KMCQ airstaff.

Here’s my first post in this thread on the subject from October 30th: if KVI did flip, I would vote for Oldies/Classic Hits myself; the only oldies/classic hits style stations in the area are KJR FM, KMCQ(for who knows how long) and KMAS in Shelton; I mean there are a few big cities where this format is still on AM(albeit stations in the 1500-1700 AM range, but still...).

I know this is a major pipe dream, but why not? I mean it worked OK the first time 570 carried the format, so why not know? Just a thought

Of course I had no idea that KVI was actually going to go oldies; that post was really a suggestion among anything else; wonder what's going to happen to KMCQ now?

The best way to test your ideas for making money with an AM station would be to try it out first in a smaller, affordable market. I suggest a small market near the coast. Therefore, in the interest of helping the industry and those who want to prove how AM can work with a music format, I make the following offer:

Show me a little cash, I'll sell you my AM station on easy terms.

Then, I will be making bets with me friends on how long before you throw in the towel and I get the station back. I win either way. If you succeed, I lose a few bets but get paid for the station. If you fail, I get the station back plus make money on my friends.

Here it is from All Access...
http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/83060/kvi-a-goes-oldies-on-nov-8th

FISHER COMMUNICATIONS Talk KVI-A SEATTLE will flip to Oldies on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8th, becoming "SEATTLE’s Greatest Hits 570 KVI” -- the first Music, News, Personality and Information station on SEATTLE’s AM dial." TRAVIS BOX will stay on as PD
.
The on-air staff, which will debut on JAN. 3rd, 2011, will feature SEATTLE personalities including TOM HUTYLER (KJR and KOMO) and MARINA ROCKINGER (KBSG and KOMO) in the morning; 20-year vet and former KBSG talent MARK CHRISTOPHER will do afternoons and KJR legend RIC HANSEN will do nights . SUE ROMERO (KBSG and KOMO), BILL RICE (KJR and KOMO) and ANA KELLY (KBSG, KOMO and KPLZ) will provide local news, traffic and information.
"There was a huge opening on the SEATTLE AM radio dial for an Oldies format station and the exciting addition of SEATTLE’s Greatest Hits 570 KVI is another unique way for parent company FISHER COMMUNICATIONS to serve the community," BOX said.
FISHER RADIO/SEATTLE VP/GM JIM CLAYTON added, "We are pleased to return full-service AM Radio to SEATTLE and 570 KVI’s format change presents a huge opportunity for FISHER’s group of radio stations to enhance their overall success."

I have a question about KVI, and I'm asking because I think I may be thinking about the wrong station, but doesn't KVI also have an FM signal, too? Didn't Phisher put KVI on 97.7? Or, am I just dreaming?

And, what kind of Oldies will be on 570? 50's and 60's? 50's, 60's, and 70's? 70's and 80's? Any details?

Also, I've read all the posts in this thread, and @TVradioguru: I'm 24, and I love listening to AM radio. It sounds much better than anything that can be digitally downloaded. Why? AM is free, ITunes is not. Plus, in my opinion, music sounds better in mono, and the wavey skywave adds a verry nice effect to music.

I think this is a very generous offer! Bong, Scott, BlueBoy, et all; now is your chance to finally man-up and prove guys like us all wrong. Honestly, how could you lose? ;) Mr. Wolfenbarger would probably even carry the paper with a modest interest rate and an equally modest 50% down.

if bill had possession of KBLV 1540, or KWYZ 1230, i'd be interested........

but, i reckon he's talkin AM KBKW, which i listen to regularly on internet radio. and i'd hate to lose my access to michael savage, and rusty humphry conservative talk, cause some arm chair programmer hot shot flipped it to classic country. laugh it up boys!!

how bout that KVI huh? what up guru? will it work? at least it didnt go mexican!

One little nugget that the press release missed: What about Bryan Suits and his "no-cut" contract?

maybe bryan suit will be spinning the discs(er pushin the buttons) and playin the oldies now... kinda like mike webb in reverse. newstalk to music deejay

Short answer..nope. It will be lucky to tie the other oldies there in the Seattle area.. that being I believe is KIXI? Just as with the demographic, another nail in the AM coffin.

And for a small extra charge, I might toss in the KLSY call letters. sonce some of you think former call letters are pretty darned important.

[Wow. The N.A.B. needs to be on that one right away.
I've never heard of that.

Somehow I think the NAB has larger fish to fry than dealing as a go-between with consumer electronics manufacturers and an antiquated form of media.

Many of the new high end in-car entertainment systems from Ford have eliminated AM for other more modern, relevant features.

KVI- an AM signal - with commercials- against an FM jukebox - same format - with no commercials. Hmmm. Does this make sense to anyone? I wonder if there is a bigger picture here?

I think it makes perfect sense; and I think Fisher might end up buying 104.5 and simulcasting KVI(kind of a modern version of the old KBSG 1210 & 97.3 simulcast), or they'll buy it and flip it to KVI's old talk format or spanish(I would settle for talk rather then Spanish).

Is Casey Keating going to do the imaging for it? That would rock! I still remember his great stuff on the old CHR KPLZEEEEEEEE

Stereo WARS-STEREO WARS Windows down! Volume UP!!!

Love his huge voice!
