KVIE-TV to Launch the Abridged Page on September 16th

Yes this is similar to how other Pubmedia outlets have branded their news pages like Cascade PBS by KCTS-TV Seattle and LAist by KPCC Los Angeles. In this case Abridged covers Sacramento News Stories for KVIE-TV Sacramento.

I don't understand...is this going to be a website or an actual TV news program? If it's on air, when will it air? Daily or weekly, and what's the schedule (30x5, 60x7 or something else)? Never mind, it looks like another LAist or Gothamist, not anything over the air.

The second link lists 23 staffers. That's just to get started. Sounds like they're going to need some underwriting. (CPB money's just evaporated. Not that websites qualify for CPB funds anyway. So where's it going to come from?)

True too we shall see who the core readers will be and see if they will donate there. So far its local donors in Sacramento via KVIE but how does it distinguish from similar news sites that aim for the same readership like CalMatters and CapRadio News pages that currently serve the Sacramento region are yet to be seen here.

With cuts in funding, maybe it's time to combine radio and TV in Sacramento, like they do in San Francisco and San Diego. There would be CapRadio and CapPBS under one roof, and one website. Smaller staff would be able to run both together....and save money.

There was a proposal for CapRadio to merge with KVIE in 2024 but that was cancelled because the owner of CapRadio, California State University, Sacramento issued an audit on CapRadio and alleged that their former GM misused their funds intended for staff in a lawsuit. Not sure if thats possible for CapRadio to merge with KVIE-TV given where they are now.

KVIE’s Abridged news is now open. Here are some of the articles released so far.
