KVIL PD out

Some day corporate radio is going to look back and wonder what the hell went wrong... Five percent in the toilet every year should tell them what they are doing is WRONG but somehow it just translates into even MORE CUTS. Hopefully owner-operators will be able to buy the leftovers at firesale prices in the future so we'll have something worth turning a radio on for.

AMEN!

They just had their best book in 12 years. Apparently CBS likes to shoot itself in the foot... who knew?

KJ, from Jack is going to pilot KVIL in addition.

CBS Radio has been shooting its foot off long before Dan Mason took over for....you know his name! That Hollander guy! Howard Stern laughs all the way to the bank again and again and again......he predicted all of this time and time again.

Yeah their best book in 12 years. And most of that book was driven, IIRC, by the last trend, that late November to December month...

Gee, anybody remember what KVIL was doing in late November and early to mid december that would have spiked their ratings?

Bueller, Bueller, Anybody?

Maybe CBS's idea is to get a PD than can program and position effectively month to month, and not rely on stunts to make one book look good...

Or... play Christmas music all year long... Wait - we need new calls... 103.7 KRIS FM ;D

Exactly. The real challenge is to take what you can get with the nice December bump, but not let it dip back down too low the rest of the year.

That's too bad. I like Charley and he was put in a difficult position here in Dallas. I don't think they really gave him a fair chance to see if he could keep the recent momentum going, and now we'll never know.

Spittle has a job because he's a damn good programmer. Do you know him?

On a separate note, in the midst of people's livelihoods being put on hiatus and such, you're wondering why someone ELSE hasn't lost their job?

Karma can be a bitch, buddy.

jeff, you obviously have a grudge and it makes you an angry person. gavin spittle is one of the best program directors in the business. that's why he has a job. the real question is, why you're so bitter. but then, no one on this board cares. so cut out the personal attacks.

I don't know him, but what's he running over there that makes him a 'damn good programmer'?

LAst I looked, and granted I don't look closely, Russ was doing great, but the rest of that station was sucking hind____...

Somehow I would think that a 'damn good programmer' would have some ratings to reflect his talent. And while RUss is doing spectacularly, I don't think the rest of teh station is, so does that credit for good PM drive ratings go to Russ or to the PD?

I've heard rumors that Gavin is also handling KRLD, dat true? If so, aren't they another station that's lost gobs of audience share over the last 5 years?

Hey, he may be a brilliant programmer. Can you point me to something that might prove your point?

I am not in the business at all, but I certainly have noticed the programming changes at KVIL.
They have new spots with a new voice, compared to what they had last year, with the "chirpy lady"
going by the way side. Also, I think they have pledged no repeating of songs during the day, yet I
could have "sworn" they played the same Michael Bubble or Dubble ???? song twice yesterday (Friday).

I am not bitter... simply stating the obvious. Russ was doing well before Gavin came along. If I am missing something please point it out. The only thing good that I see that he has done is bring Jagger on board. He ruined KRLD and if it wasn't for strip clubs, divorce attorneys, sub-prime mortgages and adult video stores there would be no revenue generated by KLLI.

As a KRLD listener and advertiser, they have the best line up from 5 am to 9 pm that they have since they were all news. It is live, local, has my traffic reports, decent news updates through out the day, and its not all about the right or the left or the fat cats in washington.
