KVIL

What's up with KVIL? They've recently dropped the 90's music and focused on music from 2000 to today, they're also going to do a Classic Hip Hop show this Saturday and Sunday from 7pm-12 midnight.

Well, for what it is worth... Since they let half of the "Uncorked" afternoon show go I imagine they are just tweaking the format. The 80's have been taken over by JACK FM. There are a lot of stations like 1029NOW that are taking over the 90's and 2000's. A few nights ago I heard Titanium on NOW (David Guetta - Titanium ft. Sia) one of the best dance songs EVER.... Almost reminded me of K-D-L.

It's only a matter of time and they will all be playing the same playlist in order to get the same demo! In the meantime, the rest of us suffer!!

Hip hop show sounded good for the most part. Albeit a bit off format. They need to watch what they play, as I heard several songs played twice and N O artist separation whatsoever.

KVIL drops 90's music and they added a hip hop show. who is the program director or general manager there and what narcotics are have they been taking lately? I'm sorry but that station is done... i wonder what ron chapman is saying about this. give it a few months and it will be a 2010 to now station just watch, I'm sure of it... i work for a top 40 in a small town and hell we play a lot of 90's and 2k throwbacks sprinkled in every hour along with our hottest hits and we have a 90's and 2k throwback show at the lunch hour and a christian radio program on sunday mornings i guess that is what makes us unique... but whoever is managing kvil since 2013, took a legendary radio station and destroyed that son of a gun... I'm sorry but what they are doing is not HOT AC. if they were a true Hot AC, they wouldn't be doing the crap they are doing now. i have been listening to them for a while now. i don't get it... what is wrong with 90's music on a Hot AC, it is still in the Hot AC mainframe... good lord... honestly they shouldn't have changed a thing in 2013 they didn't need to but... if they were struggling change it to a format that will fill a void and a niche in the market... not this unheard-of horse-raddish of a music format they are doing now...

well that was deep

Jay Michaels is the P/D at KVIL.

I think it is only a matter of when that KVIL rebrands and goes CHR.

Why would a station that is 8th or 9th in revenue make a radical change. While it may morph as time goes by, nearly every station does that to retain its target demo.

Compared to where the station's music position stands today, an evolution into a full-blown CHR would not at all be a "radical change." In fact, I'd say the changes that have already occurred over the past few years - when viewed as a whole - are radical. Remember, this station used to be a Mainstream AC outlet!

However, if the station were indeed to go CHR, my hunch is the KVIL branding would be retained.

I cannot see this station ever adopting the "AMP Radio" nameplate; most CBS "AMP Radio" stations generate lackluster ratings and billing. Even the Los Angeles flagship isn't performing as well as it once did.

Here's an idea for KVIL. One hour called "Rockin' on KVIL" with hard rock and alternative bands. And another hour "It's KVIL Country" with classic country and new country. "KVIL en Espanol?" The best in Spanish pop?

Because why not?

Surprised they're not going the "AMP" route, but since they also have a "B", "Power", "Mix", "Live", 98.5, and "Energy" in their Top 40/CHR roster this is totally different.

Seems to me if I was KHKS I might be a bit worried about the next ratings period. If KVIL takes some of the upper end of that demographic, that could really hurt KHKS.
