It is amazing that both Adult Standards & Smooth Jazz still lives on in Modesto, while it disappears from larger markets like San Francisco & Sacramento.

I cant see how KJZN Kerman /Fresno can drop Smooth jazz for talk when they had at least ratings1.4, compared to now 0.00 ratings, what was Wilks thinking.

KJZN San Joaquin/Fresno is a sad situation. I do believe however, that the 1.4 was probably 55+ which is hard to sell.

The reason why these two stations hang in there is dedication to the listeners and passion for the formats by Jim and Doug.

They walk the talk. They make the decisions right there. They talk to people who call in about the music and those folks never feel like they're bothering the guy on the other end.

They've also kept the same people on the air for a long time--RJ Rose and Roman especially.

Most important they have always taken the long view and made a lot of good financial decisions.

Actully its surprising that KSAC 105.5 is doing better then KFIA. What were KTKZ's ratings like when it had the FM?

Spanish religious talk is part of Salem's mission. Smooth Jazz is not.

In Hawaii, Salem owns some secular formatted stations besides right-wing talk. The Spanish speaking population is small there and they still have seven stations in the market. Then there's Portland...with a Regional Mexican formatted station in the cluster... a little surprising.

Small "Mom and Pop" broadcaster with low overhead and a limited rim-shot signal. Look how low their numbers are. I'm sure KRVR doesn't penetrate buildings well.

The owners are dedicated and the stations probably don't have much value to the larger broadcasters.

Actully for how low the power is the signal is great, it comes in fine here in Concord. Also Salem owns some Bussiness Talkers as well, like 1220 KDOW in SF and 1300 in Seatle. I doubt that would work in Sacramento.

I agree Dusty, though i kind of wished that Jim & Doug would localize the Adult standards format and have local DJ's on KVIN-920 instead of Dial Global's Satellite Service but at least they are continuing with that format.

I listen on line from New York State near Albany. We have not had smooth jazz in this market since late 2004. I discovered KRVR last spring while reading this board. I find it to be a very interesting mix. The station has a nice "home town" feel to it. Also, the commercial load is quite low. I can listen for a long time without songs repeating.

Stockton will eventually lose KXPR when they move their tower north.

Stockton should be able to pick up KXPR on their Groveland/Sonora Repeater on 91.7

KXJZ-90.9 is HD and KXPR is on its HD-2. Perhaps, Capital Public Radio can make KUOP an HD station then add KXPR as its HD-2?

Actually, it has come in to Stockton for some time, but the signal is not as strong as 88.9 (right now), and where I live at, I get interference from both KUOP-91.3 & KCCL-92.1. And I live in Northwest Stockton. (near I-5 & Eight Mile Road). As for KVIN, I can pick that station up but not that good, but at nights, it booms in like a local, nice & clear! Better than when it was on 1390. Another funny thing is that 970 comes in pretty good during the day but not at night and they had adult Standards from 1993-96. KVIN-920 is the opposite. And when KSTN-1420 was on the air, They had crappy reception during the day (surprisingly got interference from San Jose's 1430) and was non-existent at nights. Back in the 1970's & 1980's, KSTN boomed in everywhere!
