KVNS 1700

Anyone NOtice this station coming in loud and clear when for whatever reason KKLF was off?
I was amazed at how far that station goes for 880 Watt nightly pattern. Infact u can always hear it under KKLF at night even in Mckinney.
How does it go so far?

It is heard up and down the TX Gulf Coast every day....being in Brownsville and probably close to the Gulf helps the propogation....I have heard it in SW LA during the day (noisy but there).....Its nice to be the only other station on a freq in the state with an omni pattern and lots of water behind ya ;)

Too bad its owned by the "Empire"

I guess 880 can get you pretty far with the waters help...
I suppose thats why it interferes with KKLF even in Mckinney.
Its a pretty good station.. i wish it would come in more often....
Ligtning please strike both KKLF towers...

Once in a while it makes it all the way up to Ottawa, Canada. Not sure of the milage but that's one hell of a distance. I've heard it on a walkman radio.

wow... There must not be many stations on 1700

AAAHhhhhhhh, NO there aren't....1700 is in the expanded band (1610-1700)...all 10KW day and most 1KW night omni...and far between except for TX!....only FOUR licensed in the US right now...Four APPLICATIONS and 1 in Mexico licensed (10kw full time)

Hmm....
I bet 1700 almost acts like Shortwave too...
I dont want many Stations on 1700 Then... Imagine what a 50KW could do on 1700 :)

There was a 50kw pirate on 1700 a few years back coming out of the Phoenix area and it blasted like a local up here in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

1600 vs 1700 is not much difference.....there is one 50KW (daytime; KVRI in WA / 10kw night) AND one 50KW day/35watts! at night in Tenn...KAHZ in Califonia has an application which would be 20KW nighttime on 1600 but only 10KW day (weird)! A CP is issued for WUNR in Maine for 20kw day/night...There sure seems to be a lot of APPs, etc for new stations on 1600...some with as low as 11watts at night...geesh are people that hard up for an AM station??? Personally, I would take a 10/1kw expanded band allocation over something in the 1500-1600 range..
