Thank heaven that they dropped ABC News at the top of the hour, that product has become shallow. They replaced it with Fox News, which is a modest move up by default. Not that I'm knocked out by any national news product that is 24/7.
Airing Paul Harvey requires airing ABC News at the top of the hour.
Laura Ingraham was dumped and replaced by a live feed of Neal Boortz, which is definitely a move up.
There are now live and local shows weekdays from 12n-2p and 4-6pm.
If these changes don't do it in the format they're in presently, then they need to blow it up. It does seem odd that VOL is that far leaning to the right in the Lafayette market. This approach would be through the roof in Lake Charles or Alexandria, but not here. You have a passionate bunch that listen, but if the station actually filled out an SIP, that 12+ share would be probably in the neighborhood of a 1.1.
If there would be one AM to survive in The Lafs, I would want it to be VOL since they are a heritage station.
The last ratings heyday for VOL: As "The Buzz", a hot talk/sports hybrid that preceded "Free FM" by several years. Yet the lineup was noticeably better, in my opinion. If that station is to survive at all, reverting to that would be the last hope. And hoping that XM or Sirius is airing nearly none of your lineup.
