Anybody know what happened to AM Acadiana on KVOL? I no longer hear my boy Ernie Alexander. Is he still associated with Pittman?
 
Perhaps the only way to properly revive KVOL is to bring back Evan Hughes aka the silver fox....I'll go for the oldies, but only if its original 45 vynyls complete with burns on the intros and commercials must be played on cart machines including the one behind the announcer............Goooood Tiiiimes !!!

Yes I remember KVOL in the early 80's. Linda Wood(Manager), Renee Revette, Phil Rankin " Shot Gun Eric Steele" Don Lane. I enjoyed working with them all and have great memories some of them for Mature audiences only. I'm still in Lafayette, still listen to Radio, but have moved on to the Transportation business(oil field) Any former KVOL jocks from 79-81 still in the area contact me. [email protected]

Fishin' Kim, seems to me you're being overly modest. Best I remember... when I moved to Lafayette first day of '81, KVOL had 29% share of audience, even with having to time into NBC News on the hour. Believe YOU were the PD, and had the most perfect voice for a morning show I'd heard since KHJ's Robert W Morgan or KRMG's Len Higbee. As a competitor, I was relieved to see you step away from radio. But as a broadcaster, I thought it was a damned shame. Of course, if you were STILL doing it -- you'd be 'downsized' and they'd replace you, for minimum wage plus a quarter, with someone who wasn't qualified to carry your headphones case.
 
Kud.......I recall Fishin Kim when he was breaking the hearts of KLOU female listeners.....after leaving a mob of angry boyfriends he upset while jocking at an unnamed Hattisburg station......Just kidding, Good Guy !
 
Very kind words, but I worked with a lot of folks who were very talented people who had a big part in KVOL's success. KVOL had some really bizzare ratings for an AM station. I remember when they took the 52 hostages in Iran we printed up arm bands that said "Remember the 52" and gave them out free at the station.We even sewed the things ourselves to save money.The whole promotion cost about $200 but we got thousands in TV coverage even a National story.You see so many negative stories about radio promotions today, it used to be about having fun and ratings. When "Ring my Bell "came out we played it every 15 minutes and KSMB(when it was AOR) was getting hundreds of calls a day to play it ,really made em mad. I think Jay Walker is still mad at me.I don't think many jocks go into radio for the money, its all about the love. Still miss radio, and always will, but I got some great stories/memories for the rest of my life.
