I saw an ad for a morning show on KVOO on the web today. Anybody know the deal? One or more of their team going somewhere else? Thought the show was doing reasonably well.

I saw the ad on All Access. It was posted by Luke "Dawg" Jensen this morning. I guess another set of great talents are climbing in the lifeboat to escape the sinking Journal ship. Or...Journal didn't want to pony up anymore dough. Anyone have any thoughts or inside scoop?

It has nothing to do with money. Andy is leaving the morning show and Luke is looking for a new morning person to take his place. He already has solid candidates interested in the job. If you are interested, I suggest that you contact him.

My hat is off to Andy O for a job very well done for many years. Andy is a class guy all the way around and his voice will be sorely missed. Andy and I became quite good chums while working together over the years. A loss to Tulsa broadcasting but a well deserved retirement to Andy who gave far more than he got back from Journal. And you are right, it had nothing to do with money. Good luck Andy.

I've had the opportunity to work with Andy over the years as well. He will be missed AGAIN on radio. He told me it wouldn't be too long and he'd be ready to retire from radio. He's left a few times but always comes back. If he's gone for good this time, he will be missed. He has some of the best timing in radio. He has always known the perfect time to get out of a bit. Good luck Andy!!! We'll miss ya!

He will be missed here too. Always a pro and easy to work with.

Ah, pa-lease JournalGuy. You're so PC. I heard he got fed up with their new "punk" program director and his little knit-pickiness and decided he didn't need the hassle...and he doesn't. Like O'Shea said, Andy is a true talent and proved it many times. They should have left him alone. The morning show had great 25-54's in the Winter book. But, just like Journal, they hire inept people in management positions so they can say '"yes" to their General Manager and keep spiraling downward. What a shame. Andy was one of the few pros left on the air in Tulsa.

It won't be long before huge changes are made at Journal.

If it please the court......Da Judge is absolutely correctamundo. Andy does not have any patience with stupidity. The last real pd Journal had was Moon Mullins. Moon knew what the hell he was doing and acted the way he was supposed to act which was like the consumate professional he was. The GM railroaded him out of the company. I was sad to see Moon go. We had many a great lunches together and I genuinely liked and admired the man. I hope to hear from again him someday. In any event, if they don't find you handsome, they'll at least find you handy Andy.

I had the pleasure of working with Andy at K95 years ago where we were both part timers. He was between stints at KVOO. I was pretty amazed at how cool and polite he was ALL THE TIME. The guy acted like he woulda gone out of his way to help you.

He didn't know me from Adam. But he has that quality that makes you feel like he's genuinely interested in your life. It was a pleasure to work with him for a short time.

Was today (June 20th, 2008) Andy's last day? I caught the last part of today's show and it sounded like Sunny had been crying. Andy's show was, by far, the best in the history of KVOO FM.

Andy did a great job and had a tremendous run at KVOO. Watch 98.5 for a big announcement soon.
Somebody in KC may have their home for sale. Could a BIG show be on the way to Tulsa? It there a Luke Dawg hire packing their show up for a move to T-Town? Is KC the clue?

It is not about song count anymore, it is about great content.

It sounds like KVOO has gone to 2 stop sets (in an effort to mirror K95), with some of those clocking in at 8 minutes! Andy's show had great content, too. He had the reputation for working his ass off on show prep and was clearly committed to making his station a winner. Listeners DO relate to personalities, and the under 30 crowd will chime
right in if they're exposed to it. TV shows like "Dancing With The Stars" and "American Idol" are proof in the pudding.
They are basically throwbacks to Ted Mack's Amateur Hour, Carol Burnett, and shows like that and they are having
huge success.

Amen to that!

NO Journal Guy, they're not going to cough-up the dough to bring in another out-of-town Morning Show talent. They spent their wad on the guy they hired for their AM out of Orlando, so I think you're smokin' somethin' on that one. Maybe a weekend talent from KC, but not a hitter.

They should have embraced Andy O, et al, and team, it was the best thing they had going. Rumor has it that Mr. Punk PD is going to create a K-95 clone. How interesting and competitive is that going to be?

I love it. I've seen it over and over in my consulting career when out-of-towners think they can do it it better than the force that already exists. It's all going to cost them a lot more money and ratings in the long run and obviously Journal doesn't have a plan. What a waste of talent.

Plus, I heard from music sources that Mr. Punk really pee-oed all of the higher-ups at Country Fever. That's getting around fast. So, to say the least Journal Guy, it won't be long before we'll see a corporate makeover here in Tulsa.

Luke is a good guy and like most PDs, he wants to put his mark on KVOO. The morning change is just a starting point. I think you all will be surprised when the overhaul is complete. There is still a lot of old baggage that has been holding the station back. Granted, KFAQ has been a big focus after MDG left. Now that it has been fixed, it is time to work on KVOO. 98.5 has not had a real PD for many years. We finally do.

Be negative all you want, but we have complete confidence in Luke Dawg and he has a good solid plan to grow the station.

Andy will be missed, but it is time for KVOO v2.0. The new morning show will sound awesome.

Gee, I wonder how the Journal people feel about being referred to as "old baggage?"

JournalGuy works for Journal just like I work for Cox. Maybe we should switch names, Journalguy? ;)

About Luke; I am hearing Luke is being micro-managed to death. Consequently he takes all of the flack. Sad. While he and I have never met, I have it on excellent authority that he is a good guy in a very crappy situation. I wish him the best of luck. Andy could have stayed as long as he wanted to. As far as the "old baggage" goes, there's not much left to set out. Hell, they're down to skin and bones now. All of radio is suffering mightily right now. Advertising money is being spent on other things. Businesses are suffering along with the rest of us and when business suffers, radio sales wither. KVOO will go on and if Andy were standing right here beside me he would agree. I know Andy O pretty damned good and I can tell you he's not the kind of airman who thinks a station can't survive without him. Whoever the new guy is I hope he does gangbusters. Good luck to the entire Journal crew. They're fighting for the brass ring along with the rest of us.

The Lyin' King,
Bob O'Shea
