KVRK-Power FM

Hello

How do you guys feel about this station upgrading their transmitter? This is the only Christian Rock format we have here in DFW.

I didn't know that 89.7 was upgrading their transmitter. I think that is great news. Power FM is, in my opinion one of the best rock stations in town. Even if you are not a Christian you can still enjoy the music on Power FM. It is just a great commerical free rock station. Other than bands like Switchfoot and Flyleaf, none of the other bands that they play are heard on commerical active rock radio. Its a great way to discover some new music.

I didn't say that they was, I was just wandering how would you feel if they did upgrade?

I was under the impression that they were already at the maximum power that could be used. No possibility of an upgrade. Personally - I don't think it would be any problem for second adjacents 90.1 and 89.3, most radios can handle second adjacents with no problems. KVRK is one of the most creative formats in Dallas - only half a dozen cities around the country have anything like this. MUCH preferable to dull, worn out CCM.

They want to! Chris (PD) has practically birthed this station into existence, ever since he fought for POWERMIX at 91.7 KVTT. Everything they are doing is right what this city -- an alternative to what is already offered. Similar to what we need with commercial radio in this town. It's a shame that this station is ONLY rock when there are so many talented hip-hop artists out there with a "higher purpose".

No upgrade on file...they currently are at 14KW at almost 600meters as a C1 on the C-C Collinsville tower (where 94.5 used to be before the move to the new Salem 2000ft tower a couple of years ago). If their contour could endure an upgrade without causing problems to the adjacent channels, they would have already done so...they really cant get any higher (no pun intended)

hey whats up this is Adrian from Power FM I do nights up here. As far as I know coming from here there have been no news of upgrades to the tower.

Cool!?

Adrian ; ) thanks dudesssssssssssssssssssss!

Adrian, you know how radio is... people start hoping for the best and then believe anything that comes along... BTW, how is Chris and what say you about not playing any hip-hop that serve a higher purpose?

as far I as I know that might be in the future on an hd channel nothing solid yet, but we will see...

Just wanted to comment that my wife and I really like 89.7 PowerFM. As a result of this station, I am hooked on bands like Kutless and Seventh Day Slumber. Wish they'd play some old Whitecross and Rez once-in-awhile.

Someone... hey yo, Adrian... need to get Chris on this blog.

Transmitter would be great. This is quite honestly one of the best Alt Christian stations in the country, which is precisely what management (a one man wrecking crew) wanted. DFW has some hidden gems, such as KEOM and AM 1190. Power FM is another.

FULL DISCLOSURE: No, I don't work there. ;D

Thanks for the comment on the station! I have to say I do agree with ya and I do work there haha..

I think that because we are non-commerical and listener supported... alot of what we can and can't do depends on the support of our listeners.

and thats the bottom line. so to say..

For reference, I created a custom geography consisting of Cooke, Grayson, Collin, denton and Wise counties. The #1 station there has 25 times the audience of KVRK, inside KVRK's 60 dbu coverage area. KLTY has 20 times the listenership in this same area.

One thing is to have a personal preference for a particular station, but to say that the most succesful contemporary Christian station in the country is dull and worn out is not an opinion shared by the very listeners who have voted 20 to 1 in favor of KLTY over KVRK in the heart of the KVRK coverage area.
