KVTT 91.7 The Truth

Hello

KVTT has been sold to KERA owners (North Texas Public Broadcasting). Rumors has it that this will flip to AAA when the deal is done.

I'm interested. I'm especially interested in a Triple-A that doesn't have to tip its hat to commercial interests.

If this rumor is true, can't wait!

They have a tremendous footprint, perhaps the largest of the area. I remember moving to Texas in 2000, and hearing them 50 miles South of Shreveport - and they never faded all the way in. Remarkable.

I always thought that maybe the city of Dallas would buy it and move WRR to that frequency, and sell 101.1, making a tidy profit while maintaining or even improving coverage.

Actually 91.7 Is weaker then 101.1 ;)
91.7 Goes 30 Miles Or So 101.1 Goes 40 Miles Or So.
What you heard 50 miles south of Shreveport was Tropoduction.

Those distances don't seem quite right -- 30 miles from the Cedar Hill tower site would mean that 91.7 would start fading in Richardson...and 40 miles would have 101.1 fading south of McKinney. Both stations do much better than that.

Im talking about the City Grade.
KVTT starts to go out South Of Mckinney
101.1 starts to go out North Of Mckinney.

Those maps are vast oversimplifications and estimates only. The implication is that the signal drops off the edge of a cliff or something at discrete levels. It does not. Maybe a $5 clock radio in McKinney that has been dunked in water a couple of times would have trouble, but any reasonable radio will do just fine. Since a lot of radio listening is in cars, you are good within 100 miles of the towers on most car radios for either frequency. More than that with a Pioneer Supertuner 3D.

My reception South of Shreveport was repeatable on several occasions at different times of days and different months of the year. It is real, not tropo. It was also with a stock car radio, not an aftermarket with better performance. However, considering that most cars no longer have adequate antennas, I doubt most people could duplicate the reception.

Keep in mind that less than a third of FM listening is in the car... not the huge percentages many people imagine.

All bets are off in the office - streaming has made the entire world available - if the employee can hide it from the company network nazis, and if the new streaming fees don't kill every stream in the US!

Most bets are "on" at "work" since most work locations are not offices.

Maybe not. Companies have been filtering streaming sites fron their networks, for various reasons including the fact that streaming hogs bandwidth, and it also creates a distraction for the employees.

They are now on 1110 AM I heard them today. It was kind of neat to drive home to Tom Dooley who I usally drove to work with. Christina was there announcing so I do not know exactly what her new role is but It was clean and crisp as always. Also the Director I forgot his name was on. They were playing the journey along with some music during the breaks. Sounds good.

Susan ;D

I listened to 1110 AM for the first time today. I had been scanning the channel at night for the last several nights, not realizing that 1110 was Daytime only.

But, anyway, 1110 comes in loud and clear in central Irving.

I always thought that when stations went "off the air" in a daytime only operation, that they would "sign off", but tonight, at 7:00pm, in the middle of a song, the signal went off...
