So does KDBN ... a new AAA competitor on a better signal isn't likely going to be helpful for them to raise the anemic ratings it has generated so far.

When KERA announced the purchase, it said the new format will debut in the fall.

I heard that work on the studios has begun, and it should be AAA by September. :)

Interesting side note: KERA seems to have made the purchase to keep an east coast NPR cluster from moving into the DFW market.
 
That doesn't surprise me. I heard stories that KERA fought for the channel 2 license for so long to keep it out of the hands of UNT or SMU. Either one of which would have likely kept the station rather than selling it to Daystar.
