I felt the same way when Guns N' Roses started showing up on classic rock stations. I stood in line for my chance to buy a copy of Use Your Illusion I & II for over 3 hours. You know, back when Sam Goody was still a thing. I'm starting to catch up with dirt, I swear.Wow! It’s sounding a lot like a gold-based AC. I don’t know if I’m ready for “Uptown Funk” to be considered an “oldie.”![]()
Pretty good shot at the "big" guys, huh? Funny thing is, Scottie Rice (if I'm not mistaken) is from California. 😂 Well...we won't hold that against him. I like the one that goes Tyler and Jacksonville, now you know what your neighbors in Longview have been enjoying since 1935, or something to that effect. I've heard nothing more recent than "Uptown Funk", but adjustments are being currently made to the playlist, and will surely continue to be.The newest song I heard was Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” from 1998. I didn’t hear any spots, just promos saying to advertise on KFRO because they are local unlike the other stations owned by corporations based in “New York City and Portland, OR.”
Here's something we disagree on. Listen to the new KKGT when you are over this way. "95.1 KKGT Jacksonville, Whitehouse, Tyler." It's a mouthful, and for what? It's considered a Tyler station, by most Tylerites, if it can be heard inside of Tyler. Remember, 98.7 has showed up in our past market measurements over the years, and not with a 0.1. A little static is just part of the game. Listeners don't need to hear the name of the city buried in a TOH ID. Everyone here knows that unless you are tuned in to Mix, Jack, KNUE or Kicks, you are going to experience some level of signal degradation. We, unlike y'all in Longview, don't have the "advantage" of all the Shreveport's stations being normally available on our dial. Listeners here are conditioned to take what they can get. Heck, I carry KMOO with me all the way home in Swan. The Ranch has a far better signal, but I prefer our product far more than what Alpha considers "classic country".The only thing I think they should do different is mention Tyler after Cuney for the KFRO-FM part of the ID. Maybe it’s not as big of a deal as I think now, but Tyler listeners need to think it’s their station, too.
Kicks does a lot better now that they have quit with the smear campaign against KNUE. That had everything to do with who was in place to run the station. Once Alpha took out the trash, Kicks began the road to recovery. KNUE isn't any better or worse thank Kicks, to be honest. If you like a little dab of classics, KYKX does that. If you want something closer to a country top 40, KNUE would be your choice.KYKX booms right into town, but I suspect that it might as well not exist to Tyler listeners. I think the vast majority of KYKX’s ratings come from Longview. There’s no way KNUE is that much better than KYKX (if they really are).
