KWBT-Bellmead or Mexia?

Did KWBT already move to Bellmead? I went to Fairfield to pick up my cousin on Sunday and found a VERY poor signal at 104.9. Either it has moved or was running with lower power than it is authorized for. Also is 1590 and 101.3 still simulcasting? Didn't hear an ID for the translator at the TOH.

They may have been doing some testing from the new site, but officially they're still licensed to Mexia.

And about 101.3 and 1590, last I heard it's still a simulcast but the switch to "La Caliente" happened at the end of February. Interestingly, though, an recent application from the translator indicated they'd be simulcasting KRZI again. I'll defer to Cousin Artie for the current status on that since he's in the area...I just roll through there occasionally.

101.3 is still simulcasting 1590. Honestly, I've never understood their decision to put "La Caliente" on 101.3...which is basically a suburban rimshot translator on the southside of town. Good signal in Hewitt, Robinson, and Lorena....but marginal at best (many times terrible) once you cross Highway 6/Loop 340 into Waco proper, where the most valuable zip codes for any Spanish format are found.

Cousin Artie, is KWBT airing from Bellmead now? Had a very poor signal travelling up to and in Freestone County on Sunday.

Perhaps Artie will have more details, but last time I drove by the new site (from University Parks a few weeks ago), I saw a transmitter building (which was constructed last year, I think), but still no tower. I believe the lot is also being used for RV storage or something of that nature.

I am almost completely certain they are still broadcasting from Mexia.

Still saying Mexia on the legal ID. Although I must say, I'm getting a pretty good signal on my Bose in Hewitt. Better than I was expecting. I heard that construction on the tower had started a few weeks ago. They must have started right after Ryan drove by the site. I'll see what I can find out tomorrow.

Mexia it is! Tower construction has yet to start on University Parks.

I was mistaken. I finally drove by the location today and the RV storage is actually on the property next to the new tower site. The transmitter building looked finished and they had many tower sections on location ready for assembly. Looks like they are getting closer.

Thanks Cousin Artie. I wonder why such a weak signal into Fairfield then? I used to listen to 104.9 up there, since it was about the only thing on locally besides KNES, and remember it penetrating Fairfield better than it does now...or at least did a couple of weekends ago. I'm heading up to Fairfield, and to Teague, at the end of July. I'll make sure to give the dial another whirl when I am. Thanks, again.

KWBT filed a Program Test Authority as well as a License to Cover yesterday, August 14th. Ostensibly they are now operating from the new site as of now at half power (per the requirement of a PTA for a directional FM). I believe they can go to full power after 10 days.

I haven't heard a legal id yet, but the signal is orders of magnitude stronger on my table and pocket radios here in downtown Waco.

I'll be heading up to Fairfield again in a couple of weeks so I'll take a ride down 84 to Mexia and see what's left of KWBT in town. According to the ever trustworthy radio-locator map, it's not going to be very much. Ryan, that's astounding to hear your report of 104.9 in downtown Waco. Not that many years ago, I would've never imagined it happening. I must admit, I hate to see Mexia lose it. There's a history that goes with that AM & FM combo, and Mexia will presumably never see another full power FM again.

Has M&M sold the old KYCX studio building in Mexia? Last time Idrove by it, it still appeared to be in relatively good shape.

Anonymouse, KWBT is a hip hop station called "104 9 The Beat". 1660 KRZI is ESPN Central Texas.
