Is half of the Cash and Carey show now gone? I haven't heard Carey in a week and he has vanished from the website. Any info???

Maybe this is the time to call Cooper to go back to K95. I only remember a few years of him and Joanne, but weren't they there for a long time?

Who's on with Kelly now?

The guy's name is Jim Carey...interesting. His named just happened to be Carey, they need a Carey so they didn't have to change all the imaging pieces. Doubt his name was really Carey but I worked at a radio station once that the on air names never changed. When they hired a new jock, you took on the name of who you replaced. Saved a lot of money for jingles, shouts and liners.

Jim Carey was introduced as a bus driver who used to work in radio and now has this big break of walking off the street into the K95 Morning Show. Nice radio fairy tale but doubt the back story is true. Anyone know anything about Jim? I actually like him better than Tom Carey.

ATTENTION NOSTALGIC AM RADIO TOP 40 FREAKS: Didn't WCFL or WLS have about five "Big Ron O'Briens" over a number of years?

And don't discount what above is called the fairy tale...I walked into K95 28 years ago from being the warmup act at the Stables.

It must have been one heck of an act. And to think that I was signing your name in the book at the front door all those years ago.

Back (more or less) on topic. I know a guy who changed his name three times in one shift....and no one noticed.

Changed his name or used past air names three times during a show? I had a colleague at one station do that here in the mid 80s. Still one of my closest friends. Had an unusual real name so he adopted your basic WASP air name...this was his third market decided he wanted another name for Tulsa. Said three different names in the first hour of his first show here. I'd ID the guy but you'd all know him!
HINT: He left the market a number of years ago for another industry.

Hmmm. The guy I know who did it pulled it off at 1300. He used his old Tulsa air name (which was the last name of all the old 1430 guys), then his real name, than something he pulled off an album cover. The San Antonio consultant was saying, nope, nope, yeah...

Isn't out of market programming wonderful?

Gonna miss your local-ness Coop. But, I'm sure you'll still show up here.

I always got irritated when the jock that followed me was late so I instituted a policy of just doing their first break as them. I actually trained more than one guy to be on time that way.

Jim comes from Nashville where he was indeed driving a school bus. He was at another Cox station before that.

Ahh...but his name isn't really Carey is it?!?? Gotcha!

And a school bus driver??? Who do you think you're fooling Matt Bradley!?? No one here!!!

(I'm just messing with you...this is actually a pretty brilliant move considering most of the non-industry listeners won't notice a thing.)

I have the CDL License with the S endorsement to prove the bus driving thing! Drove for Williamson County, TN from the start of the school year till Easter Break...cool job too. Nothing like hauling 96 screaming elm kids home after a long day at school.

If you are in fact Jim Carey...welcome to the Oklahoma Message Board. You sound good with Kelly and I like your voice better than Tom. Welcome to Tulsa, hope you do well.

I am in fact him...and I'm beat from being at the JoDee Messina concert tonight. Why I'm still up I don't know...way to hyped from such a great show. BTW, feel free to follow me on twitter @jimcareyk955

You all may not remeber back in the 60's and early 70's all the jocks at KELI used Kelly as thier last names. Dean Kelly was the last of the "Kellys." Mid-70's the jocks used air names but did away with the Kelly last name. I escaped that somehow and used my real name when I worked there in 1973 and 74. Back in 1968 I worked at a Joplin station for a couple of weeks where I had to use the air name "Sam Jackson." They had a jingle for that anme and I was one of a half dozen or more Sam jacksons. I couldn never remeber the name, so out of records I would start to say "...on the Michael D-ah Sam Jackson show..."

Just another fun part of the history of the radio biz.

Jim,

I just have to say...

I'm a HUGE fan.

I especially liked your character in Bruce Almighty.

...wha?

Whadaya mean, "that's not how he spells his last name?"

...oh.

nevermind.

;D

(Welcome to Tulsa!)

Hey Jim, nice to meet you Thursday. (In case you're on "new people overload," I'm the guy that was headed to lunch with Steve.) For what it's worth, you look more like a DJ than a bus driver. Of course that's probably because you were hanging out with Kelly. :)

Welcome to Tulsa!

Bryan
